Not accepting new clients
As a psychotherapist, I have been profoundly touched by survivors of trauma, particularly ritual abuse, mind control, organized abuse (RAMCOA), clergy abuse, spiritual abuse, and trafficking. Unfortunately, I am no longer taking new clients. I have been working with survivors for well over 30 years, have taught and consulted for clinicians, and helped lead the effort to educate, advocate, and bring awareness to the struggles of these survivors to come out of the shadows and finally get help. I am in the process of writing a self-help book for RA survivors. Please email me if you would like to be notified when it will come out.

Crises, transitions, and old patterns that no longer serve you can be daunting when you try to navigate them alone. I work to support you and/or family in discovering what you need and want in your life, by offering a kind, nonjudgmental space to attend to all the parts of you that you want to explore. While I work with a wide range of issues in my practice with individuals and families, I specialize in helping those experiencing anxiety, difficult situations or transitions in their lives, as well as those with ongoing mental health diagnoses.

As a fully licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience of helping others with various psychological needs, I welcome those who want to make meaningful change towards a life they desire. I help people identify, understand and take action to remove barriers that get in one's way. Often there are many common themes that bring people to therapy. Beyond the common themes, I listen and treat the individual based on their unique history, personal dynamics and strengths they bring to the process.

You’re here looking for a therapist because you’re suffering, doubting yourself, and feeling all alone. Or maybe you’re here because you’ve experienced trauma or loss and can’t seem to move past it. You’re also here because you want to change, to be your best self and overcome the obstacles life has thrown at you. Change is scary, but I’ve got your back. I can collaborate with you to create healthier coping strategies, better self-care, and more effective communication. Through compassion and respect, I want to help you thrive instead of just survive.

I work predominantly with women and "highly sensitive" women. My goal as a therapist is to facilitate the healing process by empowering women to create environments where they can thrive emotionally, mentally, and physically. My approach is exploratory and requires a willingness to engage in self-discovery. I believe that healing also stems from establishing rapport and a strong therapeutic relationship, making this unique relationship just as important as the treatment itself. I strive to ensure every client feels safe, seen, heard, and valued without judgment.

Have you ever found yourself unable to feel better, despite past attempts to think your way out and move forward? Like a cycle you can't escape? Is it sometimes hard to "human"- to socialize, get yourself to focus, to navigate sensory overwhelm, or even to communicate to others? Maybe you've seen therapists in the past who seemed to be puzzled by you or not on your wavelength so you felt stuck. Are you looking to get to the root of these challenges and heal them for good instead of chronically coping just to get by? Do you need to make a change, but don't want to simply talk about your feelings? The good news is everyone can heal.

I work with pre-teens and adolescents (ages 12 and above), young adults, and adults. I approach therapy through a holistic lens, using compassion and warm curiosity to support your exploration of all aspects of who you are, how you feel, and what matters to you. I believe in co-creating unique experiences and relationships, meaning that the structure of sessions is framed by what feels personally relevant to each individual I work with.

As a therapist, I value creating an open and non-judgmental space to learn with individuals about their authentic experiences. In efforts to help someone live a life most fulfilling to them - I believe that compassionately discovering who you are, connecting to emotions, and navigating the complexities of life is something you don’t have to do alone.

I’m dedicated to empowering teens and young adults as they navigate LGBTQ+ identity, disability, Autism (including PDA and high-masking profiles), ADHD, and anxiety. People want to be heard. That’s why I listen for your thoughts, ideas, but especially your feelings. Because they are where we all live. They are the heart of our lives and when that feels bad, everything feels bad. Sometimes it’s like you have been waiting all your life to tell your story. You don’t have to wait anymore. Recent research has shown that medication alone and therapies that focus only on behavior and not self-understanding and self-awareness cannot accomplish this. I can help you develop self-understanding so you can start making choices which enrich and uncomplicate your life. Why wait until it feels worse?

Hello there! I offer individual therapy to children, helping them navigate challenges like low self-esteem, trauma, ADHD, anxiety, and other life stressors. As a Black woman, I am intimately familiar with the pressure society places on individuals, and the ways in which this pressure can lead to a disconnect with our emotional and mental health needs. I'm dedicated to addressing the intergenerational and systemic trauma that children of color and other marginalized children, such as those who identify as LGBTQIA2S+, may experience. My goal is that youth can feel heard and understood in the space we create together.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
