Depression, Anxiety, family conflict and general reactivity are each common experiences in one's life. I work to provide an individualized treatment plan for each person walking through these common experiences. I believe that by fostering curiosity and compassion about ourselves and our own experiences, we learn to react to others in this same way. I work with a wide range of clients varying in age, demographics, beliefs, backgrounds and goals. I work to facilitate this curious and compassionate environment in which my clients can work toward decreasing reactivity through increasing self understanding.

My clients may identify as sensitive and managing depression/anger/anxiety/loneliness, craving a space to look within and befriend their inner world.
I have experience as a therapist in outpatient mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, cancer treatment facilities, substance abuse treatment centers and schools. With 10 years of serving both individuals and family systems, I have addressed a vast array of symptoms related to mental health concerns. I tend to focus on the whole body and its connections. I understand counseling as growth, much in the same way a tree grows. In counseling we honor our roots, noting where we came from while stretching our branches high and reaching for what we wish to become.

I work with adults who are seeking greater connection to their bodies and innate creativity. Adults seeking personal transformation will develop their intuition and enhance their connection to self and others through dance/movement therapy. Whether someone has never danced before or has a movement background, this work can help heal trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, and disordered eating. Many clients wonder if this is doable in telehealth, and it is! We also use a great deal of talking, implementing coping skills, optional homework, and EMDR when appropriate.

I enjoy working with adults, and couples on issues including complex family dysfunction, relational or marital distress, identity issues, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, depression and additional mental illness.
It takes tremendous courage to choose to walk through difficult places on the path towards healing, and it takes even more courage to invite a counselor to walk with you. I consider it an honor to join with my clients as they face the challenges in life, whether it be wounds from the past , struggles with managing mood and thoughts, issues with relational functioning, sexuality or unhealthy coping. I believe there is power in relationship and I consider it a joy to help clients learn how to better relate to themselves, others and the world around them.

I love introducing people to Gospel freedom and hope. My background in substance abuse counseling included a strong emphasis on family systems. My work as a pastor gave me an opportunity to take an understanding of systems and brokenness and apply it to marriages and families. Working for a decade in a school deepened my experience with crisis intervention, grief, trauma, and the wonderful ways connecting with creation can be part of God’s healing grace in our lives.

It takes such courage to open ourselves to the possibility of healing when we have been hurt. But the fullness of life that grows out of engaging in the healing process is something I continue to experience personally in my own life and professionally with my clients. While we receive our deepest wounds in relationships, it is in relationships that we can also experience the deepest healing. Some of the bravest people I have ever met are the individuals I sit with in the counseling office, and I commend you for starting the process by looking for a counselor.

Over the past 15 years, I have loved working with every angle of the family. If you looked at my schedule on any given day, you'd probably see a few married couples, some exhausted and burnt-out parents, a college student, a 4th-12th grader, someone having an affair, someone who has been crushed by a loss or a person who is wrestling through their attraction to the same gender. I often find that a person's willingness to come in and simply talk about things creates at least 50% of the change they are looking for.

I help women and femme folks explore and fully embrace who they are, ultimately paving the way for a life filled with integrity, meaning, fulfillment, and joy. My practice is a safe, inclusive space that encourages self-exploration and healing. We'll dive deep into your psyche, address any inner conflicts/unhelpful patterns, hold space for your tender spots, and help you learn to love all the things that make you "you". And as you heal yourself, you'll have no choice but to show up differently in the world and in your relationships, leading to change that truly benefits you and everyone around you.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
