My approach is client-centered, trauma-informed, empathetic, and relaxed.
Our stories are important. They are sacred and worthy to be shared. Some parts of our stories may be hard to share whether it be fear or shame. I hope to offer a place you feel seen, respected, and cared for. I also aim for it to be somewhere you can laugh, cry, and feel rested. If you are looking for someone who has “all the answers,” then I’m not the therapist for you! However, if you are looking for someone to give you space to understand yourself and how your life experiences have impacted you, then I’m thrilled to walk with you as another human who is continuing to learn and grow just as you are.

I work from a trauma informed and trauma sensitive perspective.
When we can accept the past, we no longer have the need for a different present. (Douglas Abrams, The Book of Joy). I have worked in mental health for over the past 15 years. My experience has been diverse and has brought to the place that I am now. I use a Client centered approach and believe in individualizing therapy for each of my Clients. One size does not fit all in the world of therapy. I view therapy as a form of self care and preventative health care. I try to change the perspective of mental health treatment and therapy and often work with Clients that are entering therapy for the first time.

We all face difficult experiences that can seem unmanageable. You may be struggling with anxiety or depression or with old or new trauma. Perhaps your closest relationships have become a source of stress instead of a source of comfort. Maybe you are experiencing grief and loss. Going through these experiences results in a decline in your general well-being and happiness. My approach offers an in-depth understanding of your struggles to make long lasting changes in your life and relationships.

Many clients I see come in after suffering significantly from riding the highs and lows of intense emotional ups and downs and are in search of learning new coping skills, or strengthening existing ones. Some of these folks suffer from self-harming behaviors, suicidality, addiction, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, or anxiety and depression. The common thread among them, however, is the desire to not only more skillfully regulate their emotions, but to ultimately build a life that they want to live, not just one that they simply are trying to endure.

I am a generalist counselor and work with a lot of issues such as anxiety, anger, codependency, communication, depression, OCD, ADHD, crisis of faith issues and trauma I also work with clients processing trauma through Safe EMDR.
It has been said that: "God uses our deepest pain as a launchpad for our highest calling". However, a lot of the times we become immobilized aka "stuck" by the pains we have endured. My goal in counseling is to remind believers and non-believers that there is hope past the pain, shame, and doubt they are experiencing; through modalities of individual, couples, family and pre-marital counseling. Do not let shame and doubt rule over you any longer but instead gain insight and authenticity as you understand your Creator, your process and yourself more fully.

Experiential Therapy is a trauma informed approach that uses expressive tools and activities to re-experience emotional situations from relationships to find healing.
Two things that consistently spark joy for me are the ocean and the color blue. I was born and raised in Birmingham and I come from a big, loud, Italian family. While family doesn't always spark joy, I strive to stay healthy so that I can relate to my family better. Family has always been very important to me and that’s why I love systems therapy. So many of our wounds are tied to a relationship (or a lack thereof) and at the same time, healing can only be found in relationships. Sometimes we are afforded an opportunity to heal a relationship and other times we have to find internal healing with the support of other relationships.

I have a background working in higher levels of care which gave me experience in supporting clients in exploring the pain, trauma, and difficult experiences that impacted them.
I understand that every person has different wants, needs, and unique life experiences they come into therapy with. I specialize in working with clients who struggle with substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I am passionate about creating a nonjudgmental, safe space where clients can “take off their mask” and truly lean into their authentic selves.

What happened to you? This is the question that should be posed when a person decides to confront their trauma. So much of the focus is on "What is wrong with you?" that we fail to take in the traumatic events that led us here and created the issues that we now face. I take special interest in traumatic experiences that led us to be the individuals that we are today. I have extensive experience working with PTSD, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, OCD, phobias, and life transitions. I also have unique experience working with individuals with mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and MDD.

I believe that from the day we are born, to the day we die, we come to know ourselves in and through our most intimate relationships. Hopefully these relationships are life giving, whether they are with our parents, our siblings or our significant partners. However, when we have to struggle to find support and comfort from our loved ones, life can become frustrating and hopeless. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Certified PBSP Certified Therapist, I am trained to offer my clients the most comprehensive counseling practice available to help them improve their most intimate relationships.
