Reaching out for help when experiencing turbulence in one's life can be uncomfortable and even intimidating, but it is especially brave. Whether it’s anxiety, life transitions, “big T and/or little T” trauma, grief, and/or feeling out of control – you don’t have to go the path alone. A compassionate and trauma-informed approach that reflects empathy and non-judgment will be at the core of our sessions together. This therapy space is safe for you to share feelings that may be too overwhelming or scary to process alone or with others.

For the past 19 years I have enjoyed working with a diverse group of patients that are challenged with depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD and obsessive compulsive behaviors. It is remarkable how patients begin to feel happier and important when they stop ignoring their physical and emotional needs. I love working with patients that seek to create a balance between their body, mind and spirit. I enjoy being flexible and learning what each individual is comfortable with, and work from their baseline to establish reasonable goals.

Therapy can often be initially awkward or even bring out a vulnerability in the client. I believe it is important to develop trust and rapport very early to make the client feel comfortable, safe, and heard. Once trust is established, we work together to set goals and establish coping skills to handle struggles you might be faced with. Every client’s situation is unique and that would determine my therapeutic approach. I often draw from an eclectic treatment approach such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy and incorporate Mindfulness and elements of Play Therapy.

I consider myself a facilitator of change. Making steps to change parts of life that seem "fixed" or hopeless is an incredibly exhausting task. Getting stuck in a ''lather, rinse, repeat" lifestyle creates complacency and can lead to a comfort that can be stifling. Through collaboration, connection, processing, and exercising vulnerability, I aim to help clients find a path that is suited for the type of success they choose. I consider myself a balance of being warm, empathetic, but direct in order to assist others figure out where their personal contradictions lie and to remove barriers.

Do you have to force yourself to get through the day? Do you feel disconnected from your life, as if just going through the motions? Familial and cultural conditioning often cast us in limiting roles. Whether we know it or not, we find ourselves falling into these same familiar patterns even when they undermine our best efforts towards a happy life. I help clients build an awareness to the relationship they have with themselves starting by identifying the character traits they've strengthened in order to survive. This ultimately allows them to move towards more self-compassion, freedom, and purpose in their lives.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
