I specialize in maternal mental health, supporting women struggling with infertility, and/or perinatal loss, and depression and/or anxiety during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Fertility issues and/or miscarriages can leave one feeling depressed, anxious, and stressed, yet isolated, and in need of someone to talk to. Support persons often do not know how to comfort a grieving mother after a pregnancy loss and unintentionally pressure the mother to move on. Psychotherapy can help to grieve the loss of a pregnancy within a supportive environment.

, eating disorders, infertility, depression, anxiety, trauma, life transition adjustments, etc.
Your desire to change your life and find better ways of coping is a strength you may not yet realize you possess. As a clinical developmental psychologist, I can help you understand your current struggles in context, as part of your developmental journey and the systems of family and relationships surrounding you. In an emotionally safe and confidential environment, I will work with you to uncover the source of your challenges and find alternate coping strategies. I believe it is important to help you identify and use the many strengths you already possess as you work through your current difficulties.

Currently, I see clients with various presenting issues including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relationship issues, LGBTQ issues, infertility, family of origin concerns, life transitions, and grief/loss.
As a psychologist, I help people explore their thoughts, feelings and relationships in a supportive environment. I enjoy collaborating with people to identify their strengths, while working to change behaviors and attitudes that are no longer effective. Often people come to therapy because they are not able to follow through with goals, even though they really want to change. It is my goal to help them understand the emotional obstacles that are keeping them "stuck," and options for making the changes they desire. I encourage clients to become more intentional in their choices and to take steps towards change.

Events through out our life cycle such as infertility, job loss, physical decline, and retirement can cause pain and a sense of helplessness.
I am inspired by my clients' achievements in overcoming their pain from anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship conflicts, trauma and loneliness. The process of being truly heard and believed in has enabled my clients to feel empowered to make changes in their lives. By focusing on family patterns, personal history, and cognitive and behavioral interventions, clients develop the tools to find happiness within themselves and with their family, friends and colleagues.

Here are just some examples of challenges we can work on together: pregnancy, postpartum depression, children’s behavior issues, coparenting, blending families, raising grandchildren, resolving differences of parenting style between partners, sibling issues, new baby, coping with death or illness in the family, infertility, managing discipline, and adoption.
It is such a struggle to manage the many demands of family life today. Peace and joy in the home can feel completely out of reach. As a psychologist and parent/family coach, I am here to encourage you not to give up hope that you can reclaim the joy in your family. In addition to providing in-person services in Bucks County, PA, I offer both online therapy and parenting consultation to families in most U.S. states and territories (please see below). In my 18 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families of all compositions, I have been able to observe firsthand the changes that can lead to lasting results.

I also specialize in relationship issues; feelings of low self-confidence, shame, and insecurity; parenting concerns and infertility; specific conditions such as anxiety, depression, and trauma; and issues common to resident physicians.
Some seek out therapy to help with a particular problem, and others to better understand themselves and their internal world. In any case, feeling heard and understood by a therapist with whom you share a meaningful connection, and working collaboratively to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, is almost always productive. Because therapy is an exercise in vulnerability, the fit between client and therapist is a powerful predictor of outcome. The right therapist will feel compatible in personality; challenge you in the context of warmth, safety, and respect; and meet you with responsiveness and empathy.

People come to me for therapy because: "I am miserable every morning and need a good reason to just get up." "I spend more time online than I do with actual people." " I wish I had more quality relationships. "The sex was not consensual...and no one believes me." "I can't believe everyone can have a baby but me." "I know my eating patterns need to be changed." Drawing on my 35+ years of practice with individuals, couples, and families, I can help you more quickly develop insights into established patterns of thinking and behavior that reinforce these problems.

When you met your partner you likely didn't notice them across the room and say — "That looks like someone I could solve problems with." What attracts us to people initially usually has little to do with the factors that make conflict resolution possible — let alone productive and connective. Nobody teaches us how to do conflict well. It’s not a class in high school (although it absolutely should be). We aren’t born with these tools. In fact, some of our biology actively works against us here because our nervous system is wired to detect threat.

Are anxiety and overwhelm robbing you of the ability to live your life confidently? Lately you feel like you've been having more bad days than good days. Self critical thoughts and spiraling worst case scenarios crowd your mind. Your friends, family, or partner want to help but they don't know how. Do you feel like no matter how hard you try, nothing seems to work? Have you recently realized, "something has to change here." If you are looking to learn new skills and get to know yourself again, you have come to the right place. I work together with my clients to break this anxious cycle and finally start to do things differently.

Concerns related to sex and intimacy are some of the most sensitive and personal. Experiencing sexual concerns, such as low sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, pelvic pain, or difficulty with orgasm no longer has to be secretive or embarrassing. Finding a therapist who is open, supportive, and has effective tools is imperative on the journey to satisfaction and pleasure. Using a Cognitive Behavioral & collaborative approach, I work with individuals or couples to help them further understand the concerns that effect them, their relationships, & their sexual functioning.

There's no denying it: life is hard, and it doesn't come with a manual. Sometimes, getting through the day can be a challenge, even in the best of circumstances. But it doesn't have to feel that way. I work with adults who want to boost their self-esteem, lower their stress and anxiety, and improve their communication skills in many different types of relationships. My clients tend to be adults who are struggling to balance the life they are working to build against the stress of leading a life that doesn't come with a manual.

Infertility Therapists

How can infertility affect couples and their relationship?

Clients who are dealing with infertility may experience conflict and communication problems. It’s not unusual for shame, blame, and guilt to arise in cases of infertility, whether the source of the problem is one partner or both. This means that clients are upset and pulling away from their partner just when they need them the most. Some clients may find it difficult to spend time around friends and family who are pregnant. Friends and family can also make hurtful comments that increase tension during this time.

How does therapy for infertility issues work?

The therapist will begin by gathering information about the client or couple and make a treatment plan for their specific concerns. In addition to addressing common mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma reactions or PTSD, therapists can help clients improve their decision-making and deal with stressors unique to infertility. Some examples include coping with the “two-week wait” before a pregnancy test, the distress associated with a failed attempt or miscarriage, and the shame and blame sometimes associated with reproductive concerns.

What type of therapy is best for infertility issues?

Many therapists offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples who are dealing with infertility issues. Some helpful therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which can aid clients in reframing negative thoughts about their situation. Expressive writing and art therapy can help clients process difficult feelings. Clients might also benefit from group therapy to experience support from others who are dealing with the same problems.

How long does therapy for infertility issues take?

There is no set length for therapy that addresses infertility or reproductive concerns. Some clients might find it helpful to continue therapy during their pregnancy to have healthy ways to cope with any associated stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Some clients who decide not to pursue fertility treatments might benefit from the support of a therapist. The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual client’s specific needs and goals.
