Each of my clients is my priority. When you become a patient with me, you gain my full attention, care, and drive to address and treat your concern(s). While I have decades of experience to bring to the table, I also know that each of my clients is a unique person in a unique situation, and what works for one patient may not be the correct course of action for another. I take the time you deserve to truly understand your situational factors as well as mental factors regarding your concern, and work to find the correct path forward for YOU.

I also incorporate aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy), Solution Focused Therapy, and Person-Centered Care.
I work with clients who are struggling with overcoming past trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship distress or work stress. Many times it can be easy to stuff feelings associated with any of these stressors, only to have these issues come back and be more intense. I like to assist clients with finding ways to process through their stressors, trauma, anxiety and depression, while learning healthy coping skills to manage stressors in the future so that you can feel more at peace and a sense of calm. With relationship distress I work with clients on effective communication and processing through emotions.

I have extensive training, and have supervised clinicians, using a strength based approach and cognitive behavioral therapy.
Do you ever feel alone or that you are the only one to feel this way? There is no reason for you to suffer. Everyone experiences troubles in their life and I want to help you! My passion is in understanding where you are today and guiding you to where you want to be next. You may be angry, sad, confused, indifferent, or just "numb." You may even believe that you will never feel safe and happy again. But you can and you will. Whatever you bring to me we can work together to find the right solution for you.

I graduated from SUNY University at Buffalo School of Social Work and since then, I have worked with clients with various mental health afflictions in long-term and short-term therapy. I have experience working with clients in group & individual settings. Besides common approaches such as Cognitive & Dialectical Behavioral Therapies, I use Existential & Jungian perspectives to serve my clients. In trauma work, I use the Moral Injury Model, Schema Therapy approach as well as Post-Traumatic Growth Model. I see humor, laughter, poetry…and silence as quite effective therapeutic modalities, too!

By building a supportive therapeutic relationship, along with using evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, and Mindfulness: I assist clients with learning to manage their emotions, effectively communicate, build healthy relationships and achieve self-acceptance.
“Empowerment cannot exist without accountability.” When we reclaim our story we take back our power, we begin to heal and transform the narrative. I would love to be part of reshaping your story into one that is worthy of you. I am a licensed mental health counselor with experience: treating depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and trauma. I am aware of the emotional distress caused by systematic oppression often inflicted on people of color and marginalized groups: I address these experiences with compassion, sensitivity and honesty in session.

Are you feeling stuck in negative relationship patterns, negative thoughts about yourself, feelings of anxiety, or depression? Perhaps you have tried your best to break these belief patterns but haven’t made the headway you were hoping for. Sometimes we get stuck due to challenges life has sent our way. The consequences seem to replay themselves day in and day out in our beliefs of ourselves and our interactions with others.

Everyone is looking for a safe place to be themselves. As I engage with Christians and people of color I often hear, “there’s no safe place for me get help with a counselor who is like me.” This is a lonely place to be, needing help, but feeling left out. My passion is helping the ostracized find a safe place to heal and restore. Three words describing my therapeutic style: warm, compassionate, & direct. My approach is an integration of mental health tools and Christian-based principles. I believe every person has value, worth, dignity, and purpose and I seek to help you to see that about yourself.

I am a full-time practioner, and have been a therapist for over 30 years. I have worked in many different settings. I am not accepting new clients, other than the folks i have already communicated with. Trust is an important part of any relationship. I understand that it is something that is created slowly, and maintained over time. I often serve as someone who bears witness to the stories people bring with them. By listening to those that come to see me, I better understand their experiences and then have an opportunity to assist them to fully heal.

We view the world through a lens based on our experiences, circumstances, and expectations. Sometimes, this lens can become clouded or distorted by life’s many challenges. It is my belief that we have an innate ability to be resilient at times in which our lens may become scratched, foggy, or even cracked. I utilize a multi-faceted approach to therapy to take a look at ways in which you have navigated and are currently navigating your worldview. Together, we can work on finding, building, and establishing ways in which you find clarity and understanding as it relates to your holistic health.

Surprisingly, the trickiest part isn't the treatment for what ails you, it's finding the willingness to do what's needed. Really, there are two kinds of therapy: There's therapy for your "symptoms," and there's therapy that helps you to embrace change and growth to begin with. Most people have been hampered in some way for some time, then something puts them over the edge and they are suddenly willing to see a therapist. People want to feel better or have more satisfying lives--it's the getting there that's the sticking point!

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
