You can learn how to decrease symptoms of Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Grief, and Marriage Issues.
Are you tired of working so hard in life but feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled? On the outside, things may look like everything is going well. But inside, your emotions, personal struggles and/or relationship challenges are bringing you down. You may be feeling exhausted, stressed out and sad by painful memories, life experiences or marital problems. You want things to be different and realize it’s time to do something different. You want to heal the pain you’ve been experiencing and feel more optimistic about your future. You deserve to have more satisfaction and enjoyment in the life you worked so hard to achieve.

I am a Clinical Trauma Professional with a deep understanding of trauma, post traumatic and accumulated stress injury.
I have been working with children and adolescents and their families for over 41 years. Therapy includes sessions with child and consultations with parents. When appropriate and with the parents' permission, consultations with teachers and other school personnel are conducted. I will speak with any person that impacts your child's life. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to create conditions in your child's life that will lead to their growth and development. Recently, I have had success with young children experiencing anxiety due to sensory integration over-load and separation anxiety.

For 27 years, I have specialized in providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with particular interests in treating trauma, substance abuse, autism spectrum disorder, and chronic suicidality which has enhanced my ability to work with people presenting with more common issues of depression, anxiety and interpersonal difficulties.
In my work as a clinical psychologist, I believe the connection between therapist and client to be the most important agent of change. Healing happens best in the context of a warm, collaborative and supportive relationship. When an individual is going through a difficult time or life experience, he or she often feels small, disconnected and incapable of making positive changes on his or her own. In safe connection, it becomes possible for the individual to feel empowered, connected and more flexible and capable of making the decisions and behavioral changes necessary to heal and/or move forward.

I have much experience working with an array of anxiety disorders, including panic attacks, and have extensive training in treatment of PTSD, exploring the continued impact on relationships.
I applaud the courage of individuals who recognize the need to seek help for any emotional or life stage crisis. One of the biggest hurdles in achieving an improved sense of self and well-being,then,may already be behind you! I especially welcome families, couples and individuals struggling with the human life cycle crises - the birth of a child, job or residences changes, divorce, college, elderly parents, health problems, grief and loss. Managing situational or ongoing anxiety and depression also sometimes accompany these life cycle shifts, often challenging the very best of us.

I utilize a holistic and body-based approach to healing complex trauma, internal conflict and domestic or religious abuse. My clients often come to me being very insightful on their feelings yet finding themselves stuck in shame or unrelenting self-criticism. Often they feel stuck in conflict in a cycle of wanting to create change while wanting to stay safe in the chaos they know. If this sounds like you, I am here to help you foster curiosity and compassion for inner healing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
