Are you feeling overwhelmed in areas of your life including career, relationships, family; or notice you are repeating the same patterns? Perhaps, you are looking for ways to create a more balanced life and build closer relationships. Maybe you are looking for more fulfillment and meaning than your job provides, or experiencing unhappiness but you are unsure what to do about it. I understand that life can be hectic and sometimes we can get caught up in the events of daily life, experiencing anxiety or doubts about ourselves.

Few things are harder than struggling alone. You might be holding onto pain from your family, friends, or past relationships. Or it could feel like you're stuck inside a traumatic event that chains your life. It might feel like no one understands how deeply sad, intensely angry, or desperately helpless you feel. But you're not alone. Healing from trauma is not just a concept; it is an attainable reality. It would be an honor to be invited on your journey towards healing, reparation and building a life worth living. I believe the goal of therapy is not just to stop the suffering, but to create a sustained life of thriving and joy.

Are you struggling with difficult family dynamics or a lack of support from your environment? Are you finding that the tools that you have turned to cope, like substance use and avoidance, has taken hold of your life? Are you feeling exhausted or constrained by treatment that sees your experience as a disease and dispenses formulaic solutions? You are not your symptoms and you deserve care from someone who wants to join you, sees you as the multi-layered complex person you are and supports your vision of healing in mind.

Despite our best efforts to change, obstacles can be terribly difficult to overcome in isolation; I am dedicated to creating a safe space in which we can explore the thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relational patterns that may be causing you to feel stuck. I work with young adults on the various challenges that arise when transitioning into adulthood, including creating healthy romantic/peer relationships, early career development, and challenging family dynamics. I have experience supporting individuals in exploring their gender, sexual, and romantic identity development, and welcome members of the LGBTQQIA+ community.

The decision to enter therapy is often fueled by a desire for growth and change. Having worked as a grief counselor for 17 years, I have had the opportunity to help many people as they learn to navigate the major life changes that come with loss. The death of a loved one often triggers unresolved issues and I have helped people cope with relationship issues, family conflicts, anxiety and self esteem as they deal with the ripple effects of loss. Loss and change of any kind can turn one's world upside down. But it can also be a catalyst for growth as old ways of coping are set aside and new ways of being in the world are explored.

I have worked with children and adults suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, work/school/success inhibitions, family/relationship issues, conflicts around major life decisions, sexuality, identity concerns and immigration.
Life can be difficult at times. For many of us protecting ourselves from knowing our suffering can take the form of troubling emotional symptoms, self-destructiveness as well as anxieties and inhibitions. Yet it is precisely these symptoms we must take the time to listen to as messages communicating something essential and understandable about our suffering, fears, and wishes - the emotional meanings of our personal history. By listening to you closely and carefully, we will explore together thoughts and feelings that were previously unknown to you yet powerfully affect your life. Talking changes the way things look.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
