I provide a wholistic approach to therapy. I am trained in cognitive therapy with a mindful perspective. This involves attention to the mind and body. This approach is especially helpful in the treatment of anxiety. I have a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Counseling and a specialty in forensic psychology. I conduct custody/best interest evaluations, provide expert testimony and offer therapy to those individuals impacted relationship or family issues. I have been providing therapy for over 30 years. I speak nationally on mindfulness and family discord. I wrote a self-help relationship book for young adults.

After receiving my Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, I worked as a psychologist at a variety of settings in Maryland, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. Prior to opening this independent practice, I spent 10 years working at Integrated Behavioral Care (IBC), a group practice in Summit, New Jersey. Before joining IBC, I spent 20 years in charge of psychological services at Morristown Medical Center's Atlantic Rehabilitation Institute. I have also been an adjunct assistant professor at New York University, and have taught at the Washington School of Psychiatry in Washington, DC.

My name is Stuart Cohen, for the past 30+ years I’ve worked to be a skillful, effective and compassionate therapist for children, adolescents and adults. I’ve participated in advanced training and use a variety of evidence based techniques to help clients. These methods include: Family Therapy, Beck Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, David Burns TEAM Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman Marital Therapy, Gottman Emotion Coaching, CAMS suicide assessment, Michenbaum’s trauma informed CBT. I’ve also completed the Rutgers Advanced Certificate in Social Work for People With Developmental Disabilities.

Often, talking to an objective outsider can offer a valuable perspective on problems and issues that you confront on a daily basis. So feeling comfortable with that outsider who is going to help you work things through is essential. I am proud to say many clients call my office their "safe zone." Together my clients and I make it that way. I aim to foster relationships that allow for them to discuss things free of criticism or judgment, while providing a perspective that allows them to help themselves and take steps, at their own pace, towards the change and solutions they seek.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, specializing in trauma, sexuality and infertility issues. With my background of running the Sexual Assault Center for Morris County, I am also specialized in working with sexual assault survivors.

Our complicated, pressured lives often bring challenges. Perhaps it is a challenge in relationships, family, or work. Or perhaps it is an emotional challenge such as depression or anxiety. Perhaps a life change has occured, creating ripple effects in all areas of one's life. I believe that even in our hardest times, within each person is a sense of their own unique approach to their troubles and toward healing.

We all face struggles in life. Maybe relationships or sexual behavior seem "crazy” or consuming. Or, you might struggle with extreme eating habits, internet use, spending or another kind of compulsive behavior. Maybe your job exposes you to daily risk and tragedy and you're feeling the weight of it. Either way, you probably struggle to manage emotions, anxiety, loneliness, grief. All my clients deal with these kinds of things. It’s no coincidence they've also usually dealt with abuse, family dysfunction or trauma. Many have PTSD, C-PTSD or dissociative disorder.

As a Medicare provider with more than 20 years of experience, I will offer you a warm and non judgmental environment where you can bring your feelings of sadness, loss and other powerful feelings that may accompany the grief journey. Everyone’s experience is unique, yet some qualities are universal. Throughout it all, it is important to know that what you are feeling and experiencing is a normal part of your grief process. Together we can navigate the overwhelming, sometimes dark emotional landscape of grief, and learn to find the light that still exists, but can be so hard to see at this very difficult time.
