Hi! I’m a board certified psychiatrist practicing medicine in San Francisco and via video visits throughout the state of CA. I treat a variety of mental health conditions but the majority of my practice is focused on the treatment of depression, anxiety, stress, ADHD, and insomnia. I offer both medication and therapy for adults 18-65. For some people, medication can help alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life as issues are worked through. We can explore if this is a good option for you, or if changes need to be made to your current medication. My approach incorporates medication, psychotherapy, and lifestyle interventions.

Another late night trying to catch up. Setting boundaries is tough because you don’t want to let your team down, but the workload keeps piling up and your personal life is suffering. It’s hard to relax, your mind is on overdrive, and restful sleep feels like a thing of the past. Imposter syndrome is creeping in and you try to work even harder, but it’s taking a toll on your physical and mental health. Anxiety, insomnia, restlessness, and digestive problems are a daily occurrence. You know you’re not on your A game but you don’t know where to start. Medications might be helpful, but you want more than just a prescription for pills.

Stop feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and sleep issues and start living again.
You wish you could find a psychiatrist who understands how nutrition impacts mental health, the impact of hormones on depression, and the interaction of gut health, the brain and the nervous system. You follow doctors like Chris Palmer, James Greenblatt, Georgia Ede, and Mark Hyman online, but haven’t been able to find a psychiatric practitioner who understands their approach, let alone has advanced training in whole-body treatments for mental health issues in addition to medications. Maybe you’ve seen a handful of psychiatrists but you're still struggling. It feels like you’ve tried everything and you're not sure what to do next.

In my practice I have experience with a full range of anxiety disorders (including Panic, Social Anxiety disorder, OCD and PTSD) and depressive disorders (including adjustment disorders, major depression, bipolar disorders and grief); attention disorders (ADHD); and helping professionals with occupational stress.
Everyone from time to time needs a helping hand. I am experienced with professor appointments at UCSF and Stanford. I treat outpatients in person and by telepsychiatry with medication management and psychotherapy (CBT and Mindfulness). My patients tend to be talented professionals (doctors, lawyers, tech) who have done well but have hit a bump with emotional symptoms, stress, or life difficulties. I believe each patient has unique needs that must be individually assessed and addressed. When indicated I use medication. I am a good choice for someone seeking a therapist and psychiatrist in one person.

I help people access their inner healing resources to live more productive and fulfilling lives. I work from the perspective that we all encounter struggles from time to time and in harnessing one's inner resources we can learn how to thrive in hard times and prevent further suffering. In my work with children, teens and adults I help identify effective coping strategies and stress management skills to improve wellbeing. My clients typically struggle with psychological, emotional, and spiritual challenges, including low mood, excess worry, difficulty with focus or attention, relationship and school or work issues.

I do have additional training in anxiety, ADHD, depression, sleep, PTSD, and sexual medicine.
I am a Harvard (MGH) trained psychiatrist, an engineer and a serial entrepreneur. As an integrative physician, I am ambidextrous in performing as a psychopharmacologist, an Ayurvedic healer, a therapist, and a mindful life coach. Together we collaborate closely to identify and remove obstacles to wellness, to reduce suffering, and to gain a personal understanding of the complex relationship between mental and physical health. Your personal preferences and strengths guide our approach. Quite simply, I approach problem solving and treatment planning differently.

I'm interested in a person's priorities, what engages them in life, and how they want to get there. I take a whole-person, root cause approach that delivers enhanced resilience and renewed feelings of wellbeing beyond "good enough”. I strive for truly well, without side effects. Integrative psychiatry offers solutions to support the complexity and sustained recovery of mood, anxiety, trauma, cognition/ADHD, and sleep-related challenges, including "treatment resistance," which may simply indicate the correct diagnosis has not been found, a biological clue has been missed, or a treatment strategy is not optimal.

I particularly enjoy helping address social anxiety and navigating the challenges of relationship intimacy.
I aim to establish a warm, collaborative relationship with patients, providing evidence-based support and intervention in a manner that is understandable, helpful and compassionate. While diagnosis and medication treatment is often an early focus, in my experience much of the meaningful work is based on getting to know a person, and from there confronting discomforts and engaging therapeutically within a safe environment. It is a privilege to provide this care, and I defend confidentiality as paramount. I encourage mindful self-compassion and forgiveness as a therapeutic approach to alleviating many depressive and anxious problems.

Anxiety Psychiatrists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
