I gently integrate spirituality, interfaith practices, with clinical techniques to offer a highly personalized approach if requested.
Today you are one step closer to a new you where you feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. As a solution-focused therapist my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While I can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

There are significant mental health challenges faced by individuals navigating changes in their faith. This guided process group offers a supportive environment for exploring spiritual experiences amidst faith deconstruction and spiritual exploration. In contrast to often highly authoritarian religious contexts, this group prioritize attunement, containment, and your own sense of agency, ensuring every member feels valued and supported. There is a deeply transformative impact of integrating spiritual practices with mental health care; so if you are looking to process your faith experience and potentially reconstruct from the ashes, this space is for you. Free 6-week group.

I believe in the dual powers of acceptance and constructive challenge, guiding individuals through their fears and challenges toward healing and restoration. Counseling is an opportunity for me to help others reduce pain, navigate life's complexities, and enhance their joy, purpose, and self-acceptance.

I believe that life is a journey that we travel with people that aid us in our growth and development. As we sit together talking and sharing, we discover new perspectives and insights about ourselves and life. Because we see life through the lenses of our experiences, emotions and beliefs, there are times when we need someone to listen and help us sort through our thoughts. From a strength based, holistic, and collaborative approach we can explore your journey, where you've been, where you are now and where you would like to go.

A successful life is one full of experiences, exploration, learning and growth. The moments, milestones, and memories we have in life are filled with joy and sorrow, success and failure, courage and fear. We are not meant to traverse this path without guidance, support and love. Each of us is here to fulfill a potential within that is ours to discover, to master and to fully realize. We want to be heard, to be seen, to be known. To live life fully is to embrace it with a perspective of an open heart and an open mind, knowing that in doing this, we are becoming our best selves.

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
