We see a wide variety of clients (adolescents to seniors) and are very aware of social justice and equality for all people - we are also LGBTQIA affirming. We accept clients in meeting them where they are in life and helping them accomplish their personal goals. As a psychologist, I personally have a great interest in helping people that feel stuck in therapy - we are advocates for alternative treatments including, but not limited to, ketamine assisted therapy.

I help feelers gain clarity, energy, balance and joy. People I work with express that burn out, irritability and exhaustion hinder engagement with their passions. They worry about being overly sensitive or idealistic and express despair over the state of our world. Often feeling different and isolated, they long to connect with others who share similar values.

You're ready to start feeling better and are interested in a holistic approach embracing: forgiveness, self esteem, trauma, anxiety, depression, co-dependency, loneliness and learning to tap into your inner resilience.
No matter how hard you try to move forward, you feel like your taking one step back. You’re a high performer with perfectionism tendencies and always put on a smile, which helps you forget your pain. You feel you will never be fully happy and never be able to fully enjoy life how others do, because of your many losses, attributing to your decreased self esteem. You may keep friends and family at a distance, to protect yourself from yet another inevitable loss. You may have stopped exercising and taking care of yourself the way you used to, since it takes too much work and you're just surviving at the end of another long day.

For over three decades, as an educator, school counselor and clinical therapist, I have worked with ethnically diverse populations in the areas of acculturation, anxiety, depression, stress management, low self esteem, adolescent and family relationships, trauma, grief and loss, academics and life transitions.
I am passionate and dedicated to supporting teens, adults, and families through life's challenges of school, work, relationships, and uncertainties. Healing past or current wounds of hurt, guilt and disappointment requires courage. Finding more effective ways to address current negative thinking patterns, beliefs, and experiences requires commitment. A collaborative therapeutic relationship in a non-judgemental and supportive environment allows the opportunity to find balance and hope as you achieve competency in new coping mechanisms. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed or confused, you are welcome as you are.

Client needs are my FIRST priority. I am a specialist in evidence-based treatments (EBT), which radically improves my client's success rates, increases effectiveness of treatment, and gets results quickly. The majority of my client's report improvements, within the first session: life-functioning (work- home-school-relationships) and report immediate reduction in symptoms. Reducing anxiety/ panic, decreasing depression, developing stronger coping strategies to stress and balancing mood dysregulation are my specialty, as symptoms can result from adjustment challenges to sudden life changes: parenthood/divorce/grief/college. We collaborate on thinking traps, tracking triggers, modifying behavior, successful coping skills and strengthening resiliency.

We focus on techniques that address the origins of anxiety, depression, and trauma. These emotional states are not just thoughts that we think, but physical experiences felt in the body; tightness in the chest, trembling, pit in the stomach, etc. The techniques we utilize such as tapping, EMDR, and cognitive behavioral technique,s aid in the body and mind's recovery by neutralizing the effects of the negative experiences. This allows new beliefs to take the place of the dysfunctional beliefs that were not serving you. Once these techniques are learned they are yours, empowering you to navigate through challenging times throughout your lives.

Anxiety Support Groups

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
