Hello, I'm Matthew (he/him). I offer support for anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues. My specialisation is working with people who are LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent, however, I offer a warm welcome to everyone. Having personally experienced the challenges of living in a heteronormative and neurotypical world, I understand the difficulties of coping with feelings of shame and rejection. I believe these feelings can be overcome, and offer hope for living a comfortable life in your own skin.

I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist and offer one-to-one therapy for adults. Therapy offers a space for insight, understanding, growth and change. I offer a confidential, compassionate and safe space, for you to bring the difficulties that you are facing but also hold space to involve humour, laughter and play in my work too. This can be an important part of coming to terms with hardships and loss, and of healing.

In some moments in our lives, we need professional help when we can’t deal with difficult feelings alone. In these situations, it doesn’t matter if you are not feeling ready to start therapy. The most important thing is to be with someone you feel comfortable enough to express your concerns and feelings. I am here to work with you regardless of your emotional difficulties. I specialise in working with various emotional issues as well as considering how various elements, such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, culture, nationality, disability, religion, age and others, can affect a person’s wellbeing.

Hi, My name is Nav and I am a therapist who works with people who are anxious, depressed and often struggling with identity and self esteem. Grief and loss are themes that often emerge, as I help you examine the shame you may have felt your whole life. My clients are predominantly from the LGBTQ+ community and are often BAME also. Most of us will experience sexual and relationship difficulties at some point in our lives and yet it can still be very challenging and embarrassing discussing them. Talking to an experienced and qualified psychosexual and relationship therapist can help you identify the difficulties you are experiencing, understand and explore different ways you can overcome these challenges and move forward. I aim to create a confidential and safe place where you feel able to talk about these issues in a non-shaming way. I am a sex positive therapist and I am comfortable exploring alternative sexual interests.

Feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, anxious, worn out, depressed and stressed are just some of the many ways we might react to what is happening around us and within us. Looking for help is not a sign of defeat, not now and not ever; it should be seen as one of many ways we can look after ourselves in these trying times. If you think talking might help you to process what you are going through, then please, get in touch. During our sessions I aim to provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space for you to explore your issues.

Have you taken a wrong turn, or maybe broken something? Are you unsure how you repair it? In our work together, we will explore the obstacles to emotional closeness that you face, examining how past relationships and personal histories continue to influence your present. By addressing and healing these traumas, we can let go of the unhealthy and compulsive behaviours that once served as protections against confusion and pain. This process opens up the possibility of making conscious choices, improving self-awareness and fostering a more holistic understanding of how our thoughts, behaviours, and emotions are interconnected.

Are you feeling low, lost or anxious? Are you looking for a supportive therapist who will listen to you and help you make sense of what’s going on in your life? I work with people who have anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues and depression, among other difficulties. Sometimes these emerged after a loss or setback, or maybe they are feelings that have always been there and now is the time to tackle them. Perhaps it's hard to even say why, or why now. Whichever it is, I’ll support you, listen to you, and help you understand what’s going on right now, how it relates to the past, and how you can make changes for the future.

Men's Issues Counsellors

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
