I am a Clinical Psychologist specialising in work with children, adolescents, young adults and families. When emotional problems arise it can be difficult to acknowledge them and know where to turn. Your search for help, for yourself or for your child, may have begun with difficulties in relationships or feeling stuck, lost, overwhelmed or frustrated. I seek to understand these feelings and understand them as signposts to underlying challenges. I work at multiple levels to affect change and aim to help you have an increased sense of freedom and enjoyment in individual and/or family life.

We offer help informed by the most recent research, to relieve distress, improve your life, and achieve your potential. We are trained in a range of therapies, to offer you an evidence-based approach, tailored to your needs. We set up the London Centre for Applied Psychology because we believe that getting help when you feel overwhelmed should be as normal as going to your GP when you have a persistent cough, or unexplained pain. Therapy and coaching work: the overall effect size for therapy is larger than the success rate for flu vaccines; and 75 percent of people who come to therapy are better off than those who don’t.

With over 25 years of experience, ranging from addiction through to sexual and emotional abuse, anxiety, depression, anger and numbness, I'd like to support you. In recent years I have moved my work focus to integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) as I find this way of working empowering to the client, engaging and highly effective. It may be you hear a loud critical voice inside or joy and fun may be fleeting or missing, you might like to access them again (or for the first time!). If your goal is a compassionate, connected, creative Self then maybe Internal Family systems be what you are looking for in therapy.

I offer evidence-based therapy and coaching. I will help you challenge the way you think about your life, and to behave in new ways. We won’t just talk about the causes of your problems, like a lot of therapy. I tend to work with successful people who on the surface are doing OK, but underneath are really struggling. I'm not the expert on how you should live your life; but I can help and guide you towards feeling better and living the life you want. I've co-written the book on what the evidence shows makes up the best therapy – A Straight Talking Introduction to Therapy. So, you can be reassured you're in good hands.

In some moments in our lives, we need professional help when we can’t deal with difficult feelings alone. In these situations, it doesn’t matter if you are not feeling ready to start therapy. The most important thing is to be with someone you feel comfortable enough to express your concerns and feelings. I am here to work with you regardless of your emotional difficulties. I specialise in working with various emotional issues as well as considering how various elements, such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, culture, nationality, disability, religion, age and others, can affect a person’s wellbeing.

I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, registered with the BACP. I work with individuals and with couples for short term and long term periods. I provide a safe and confidential space for my clients to talk and explore the challenges they are facing and how this impacts their life. I respect the individuality of my clients, their experience and capacity to decide and choose their own destiny. You may have a goal or outcome you'd like to achieve, but often you may not, and this is okay. I work relationally and believe the supportive and trusting relationship between myself and my clients helps facilitate change and a way forward.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
