I'm passionate about helping you to live a better life, Whatever the reason you are seeking help, I can help you to navigate thoughts and feelings that are having a negative impact on your life, enabling you to gain awareness, connect to past experiences along with present behaviours to gain the clarity needed to bring about the changes you want to make.
Now more than ever, people are feeling overwhelmed, anxious and uncertain how best to manage their lives. A life changing event, shock, grief and loss, past experiences holding you back from the life you want to live can result in feelings of anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, and depression . By pushing away your own needs, by burying your thoughts, feelings and emotions can lead to long term issues that affect both mind and body. By understanding where you are now and the challenges you are facing, therapy can help you to work through the difficulties that you are experiencing and realise your goals to live a better life.

I understand that revealing your thoughts and feelings to a stranger is not always easy, I have utilised therapy myself in previous years for things such as post-natal depression, work-related anxiety, empty nest syndrome & bereavement.
Life can be unpredictable and some experiences can cause reactions we don’t fully understand. Counselling can help gain relief and clarity, helping you to find a healthier way forward. Hearing your thoughts and feelings out loud, in the presence of a trained professional can bring about shifts in awareness and perception. Facing your concerns or fears can feel empowering, helping you to feel more in control. My aim is to provide a warm, welcoming safe environment where together we can explore any worries, problems or issues that are causing you any distress, sadness or anxiety.

I have worked in Mental Health for over 20 years in Primary and Secondary Care, working with Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Addiction, Abuse, Obsessive Compulsive Behaviours and many other psychological difficulties.
How you feel about yourself and your worth can impact on you every day and in every relationship. You may have difficulties with family members or in friendships and more personal relationships. You may find it difficult to voice your needs. Reflecting on how we are with others and with our self can be revealing and bring about change. This can help you to be more present and involved in your life. These thoughts and feelings didn’t develop overnight and I provide you with a confidential space to support you in this exploration for lasting change. I am still able to see clients face to face following government Covid Guidelines.

Deciding to invite outside professionals to help your child can raise a mix of feelings for you and your family.
Is your child or adolescent struggling emotionally? Perhaps they have been dealt a blow, lost trust in others, feel confused or overwhelmed by their experiences. Sometimes they might behave in ways that negatively affects school and relationships, denying them of care and opportunities. They may be experiencing social-emotional difficulties (i.e. anxiety, low mood, trauma, bereavement, neurodiversity, identity issues, low self-esteem or been treated unfairly).

It is amazing how the power of the imagination is able to unlock unconcious core beliefs, to stop the video loops from continuously playing in ones head, and help the client to return to calm.
My ideal client would be one suffering from PTSD, and who has anxiety and depression. Possibly has been abused in the past, ie raped or bullied

"We're all in this (human condition) together.
People who are keen to re-orientate their lives in the direction of their values - towards what gives them a sense of meaning and purpose. Having a clearer idea of what really matters helps people motivate themselves - even to the extent of accepting the difficulties it may entail - to either change or persist - in behaviours that will move them in their valued directions. Typically, this approach can be powerfully effective in dealing with the pervasive problems of stress, anxiety and depression and other chronic issues where rigid patterns of avoidant behaviour have developed.

I believe in allowing people the space to explore what they need in the time they need to do this.
I am a Person Centred counselor who works with adults, children and young people, offering 1-1 or group therapy. My approach is non-judgmental and I offer a secure, confidential and nurturing therapeutic space to help you through your difficulties at your own pace. I got into counselling because of having counselling myself so am aware of the difficulties facing finding the right counselor and what it's like having therapy. Even with this knowledge your process will be different and you will have your own sense of the pain you are experiencing. What I offer is my ability to help you walk through this pain with empathy and safety.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
