Parenting Sessions will empower you to confront your parenting challenges head-on, tapping into your strengths and resilience.
You're carrying a heavy load of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, loneliness, and emotional pain. Your dissatisfaction is widespread, seeping into your work, friendships, and family connections. Recent life changes—be it a breakup, starting college, a new career, a move, marriage, divorce, pregnancy, or parenthood—have left you feeling adrift. You crave confidence, calmness, and reconnection. And if you are here for your child, you have been looking for a therapist for them as you have noticed your child is tearful, angry, worried, irritable and frustrated most of the time. They are struggling in peer relationships, and breaking down.

I see children for ADHD, psycho-educational, and mental health assessment, and provide parent coaching/consultation for concerns with children.
We all experience times in our lives when we struggle, whether it be with mental health, relationships challenges, life transitions or a lack of purpose. We need to be gentle with ourselves and give ourselves grace as we move through the different stages of our lives. Sometimes it feels messy, and collaboration can help us to make sense of it. From an attachment-based and trauma-informed perspective, I will help you work through your circumstance and move forward in a way that is healthy for you.

As a psychologist with a background in athletics and now a parent raising two athletes, I've gained a deep appreciation for the value of performance psychology.
No waitlist! Hi, I'm Ben. This is not an easy first step, but you should be proud of making this step. I know I am. It is very common to feel overwhelmed, isolated, or stuck in negative thought patterns, and feel like these emotions impact your daily life and overall well-being. If you are struggling with feelings of low self-worth, pervasive sadness, or chronic stress, and have difficulty managing your emotions or maintaining healthy relationships there is a way to find change. If you want clarity, support, or simply someone safe to talk to, I am more than happy to help!

I have 10+ years working with clients experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, school refusal, friendship concerns, navigating family relationships, suicidal ideation/self-harm, and sexual/gender identity. I have worked with adult and youth clients with these concerns, along with relationships, infidelity, and parenting. My practice also includes working with couples, polycules, and consensual non-monogamy. I feel we all have a huge capacity for resilience and learning and enjoy co-creating successful therapeutic relationships which are trauma-informed and recognize client's lived experiences.

Navigating personal struggles, parenting challenges, relationship issues, or past trauma can feel overwhelming.
You are feeling down, stressed, overwhelmed, worried, or sad. Perhaps the activities you once loved no longer bring you joy. You might be facing challenges like school problems, family conflicts, or relationship issues. Maybe you’re seeking more fulfillment in your marriage or wondering if separation or divorce is best for you and your family. Or perhaps you’re trying to navigate the complexities of a blended family and find a peaceful way to settle in together. You may be experiencing low self-confidence, anxiety, depression, work disputes, or communication breakdowns.

My ideal client is a child or youth with significant anxiety issues. They need a better understanding of what is going on in their heads and in their bodies. They want to feel less distress, and to be able to do the things that their anxiety is preventing them from doing. I'm not accepting new clients right now.

As we move through our life experiences, we develop patterns and ways of being and coping that may no longer serve us. Our past gives us clues to our present and with this understanding we can change our future. Do you feel like you don’t know who you are? Do patterns in your relationships and life feel impossible to break? Are you dimming your own light to fit into who you think you should be?

Having been well acquainted with the weight and pain of toxic shame myself, as well as having experienced this weight being lifted, I have a passion for helping others go through this shift too, in order to feel freer to share their authentic self with the people they hold most dear. I also have a passion for practicing and teaching mindfulness. Applying mindfulness to the many areas of my own life, including work, parenting, communication, and relationships with both myself and others, to name a few, has been life changing and has allowed me to more frequently experience life in the moment.

Parenting Counsellors

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
