I enjoy working with both new and experienced parents who may be needing some support with
parenting
and building healthy attachments. I believe that in order to be present for our children, we need to ensure we take care of our own mental health as parents. I love to provide support to parents to help them flourish and embrace the
parenting
experience. The transition to parenthood, birth trauma, infant/toddler sleep, and postpartum anxiety are all areas of interest for me. I have my level one EMDR certificate and plan to take additional training specifically for EMDR with birth trauma and other maternal trauma.

I am a Registered Psychologist who specializes in working with children and adolescents. In trying to best understand the child or adolescent, I like to understand who they are within the context of the environment in which they live and the strength of their closest relationships. My practice is informed using attachment and developmental theory, and my goal is to offer support and guidance to those trying to navigate through the dynamics of childhood and adolescence. Additionally, I offer
parent
consultation to provide parents insight into their child's development and encourage attachment focused
parenting
practices.

Motherhood can be overwhelming and complex, bringing out your greatest strengths and highlighting your deepest struggles.
Parenting
can bring up attachment wounds and traumas, leaving you feeling dysregulated, lost, and alone. As a maternal mental health and attachment specialist, I compassionately support women to become more grounded and empowered, while finding connection and healing for themselves and their families. I work with clients to shift generational patterns, understand internalized pressures, become more present, and reclaim wellness for themselves and their families. Having been well acquainted with the weight and pain of toxic shame myself, as well as having experienced this weight being lifted, I have a passion for helping others go through this shift too, in order to feel freer to share their authentic self with the people they hold most dear. I also have a passion for practicing and teaching mindfulness. Applying mindfulness to the many areas of my own life, including work,
parenting
, communication, and relationships with both myself and others, to name a few, has been life changing and has allowed me to more frequently experience life in the moment.

I have 10+ years working with pre-teens and teens (11-18) experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, school refusal, friendship concerns, navigating family relationships, suicidal ideation/self-harm, and sexual/gender identity. I have worked with adult clients with similar concerns, along with relationships, infidelity, and

; my practice also includes working with couples, polycules, and consensual non-monogamy. I feel we all have a huge capacity for resilience and learning and enjoy co-creating successful therapeutic relationships which are trauma-informed and recognize client's lived experiences.

It can be really hard to prioritize yourself, especially if you are a
parent
or caregiver. Caregivers need care, too, but many things can get in the way of this: lack of supports (systemic and personal), an individualistic culture, guilt and shame, lack of modelling (i.e. "how do I even do that?"), unresolved trauma & attachment issues, burnout & time poverty. I use traditional talk therapy and Sensorimotor (body-focused) Psychotherapy, Art Therapy & EMDR to help you slow down and attend to yourself. I believe that a joyful, creative life where you honour your own needs and deeply care for others at the same time is possible.

Through all my personal and professional experience it seems that the foundation for much of our suffering and of our healing is in the context of our relationships with each other. I have found that exploring and unpacking our relationship experience and expectations provides new pathways for healing. I love seeing people's excitement as they become newly aware of the thoughts and feelings of their family, their community, and even their own selves. May we find more hope together. Together may we find your pathways home.

As a therapist, one of my passions is working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, anger, relationship issues, and suicidal ideation. Many people feel that they are alone in their struggles. I believe my role as your therapist is to remind you that you are not alone, normalize how you feel, and provide helpful tools along the way. My approach is solution focused, goal-oriented, strength-based, and trauma-informed. However, my main focus is building a strong therapeutic relationship that will help you feel safe, heard, and understood.

What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
