Get on a call with us today to see if behaviour services are the ight fit for you and your family.
New-age ASSENT-BASED compassionate services! In Ontario, most behavioural services are catered towards children with Autism. OAP is the primary form of coverage and only covers up to age 18. Most centers age out around 13-15YO. What happens to our children next, once they age out of these behaviour centers? What happens to individuals without Autism but other developmental, intellectual, and behavioural disorders/challenges? What happens to the Adults that still require support in independent living? This gap has gone on for too long. We are here to bridge it! Adults with unique needs require support now more than ever.

Dr. Foti has extensive experience in helping children, adolescents, and families address a wide range of emotional, behavioural and relationship issues. Dr. Foti also provides therapy to children, adolescents and families, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

Starting counselling is a brave step. You may already know that you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or alone but don’t have the tools to cope. Or, maybe you don’t know what’s wrong and would like support to help figure things out. This is where I can provide you with a safe space, patience, acceptance, understanding and care. At your pace, we will figure out what a better life looks like for you. Then, together, we will try to make you feel stronger, safer and more in control. I have experience supporting concerns like relationships, family, identity, self-confidence, anger, grief, career, school, stress, anxiety, depression and more.

You've been thinking about seeing a therapist for a while now, perhaps months or even years. Maybe you thought you were managing well, but then COVID happened. Let's face it, life can feel chaotic and messy at times. This may lead us to feeling overwhelmed, confused and lacking a sense of direction. We may feel burdened with anxiety, worry, fear or anger regarding the wellbeing of ourselves or relationships that we care about. In an effort to be helpful, family or friends may try to give advice, but that may leave us feeling even worse. This can make reaching out for support all the harder.

Our struggles with life and mental health often make us forget how to offer compassion and kindness to ourselves. While we "demonize" our body's response to seemingly easy "routine" functions, therapy can help us understand & recognize how our experiences have shaped our survival strategies and ways of being. My practice is grounded in my work in community-based mental health programs, as well as lived experience of systemic issues. I draw on EMDR, internal family systems, somatic and anti-oppressive approaches, based on the individual/couple's needs. I have specialized training in working with trauma, abuse and relationships.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
