Some people struggle to manage their emotions and behaviour. Maybe they get angry or upset over "silly" things and they want to understand why. Other people are looking for the right mental health support, due to current or historical problems and diagnoses. I use EMDR to treat trauma from childhood, military service, sexual assault, road accidents, medical procedures and from family violence. I also help many adults who have anxiety, depression or symptoms of autism, offering a safe space where distressing thoughts can be explored safely, respectfully and with a dash of humour. I am also available to attend critical incident sites.
I chiefly treat trauma survivors, initially looking at relationships, emotions & productivity. Psychoeducation & our rapport are critical - clients need to feel safe & know as much about their mental health as me. In my work I also blend EMDR, CBT, relaxation, motivational interviewing, career counselling & family therapy.
Traumatised people typically show symptoms such as general & social anxiety, poor anger management, emotional dysregulation, relationship challenges, avoidance, poor sleep & substance abuse. The symptoms, also common to autistic people, keep recurring until the underlying trauma is named, managed and reduced, usually by soothing the "fight/flight" response.
