Not everyone needs a psychological diagnosis. Do you need someone to talk to? Are you finding life a struggle, feel anxious or overwhelmed? Has something specific happened that is preventing you from moving forward; the end of a relationship, loss of a job, a bereavement? Do you desire something to change, however, don't know specifically what it is or where to start? Perhaps things don't feel quite right and you need guidance with discovering any underlying issues you may not be aware of? As a trained counsellor, I offer a non-judgemental space to listen and help you sift through what may be troubling you.

Having spent many years in working with people recovering from natural disasters in Queensland, I understand that very often, it is the ‘straw that breaks the camel’s back’ that will bring a person into the counselling room. Having said that, some may enter the counselling environment looking for personal growth, while embarking on a new season in life. While others may be looking to find solutions to a problem, heal a troubled relationship, overcome anxiety or depression, or perhaps the time has come to work through past hurts, traumas or grief that are still impacting.

I'm a passionate child and family counsellor who works from a strengths-based perspective and sees the potential in all my clients. I've trained in several play therapy modalities (CCPT, Theraplay, Autplay, Filial Therapy) to help children and families communicate and connect in times when words just don’t meet their needs. I've also trained in several parenting programs to help parents navigate this sometimes-challenging role i.e., Circles of Security, Triple P, Emotion Coaching 123.

For over 20 years I have had the privilege of delivering person-centred supports to neurodivergent children, their families, and educators. I am known for my holistic approach to intervention, with my philosophy being centred around the power of combining evidence-based approaches. Using Play Therapy I build connections with children as we work together to develop their emotional regulation, social intelligence and cognitive skills. Play allows children to apply their natural skills and strengths while learning challenging concepts. This leads to independence, self-confidence and self-determination that will last a lifetime.

Greetings, and thank you for searching for some assistance, to help you to reach the goal(s) or solve the problem(s) you may be struggling with. As a mature experienced psychologist who grew up in differing cultures and loves her job, my method is to listen and explore with kindness and compassion so you can address the cause and maintenance of your problem, for without a good assessment the treatment can be wrong. Original and current unhelpful coping is identified and better ways to evaluate and problem solve are found. Although therapy can be difficult, I try to make it as fun as possible!

Healthy relationships are an integral part of living a fulfilled life. When we face life’s challenges, however, we may resort to unhealthy ways of dealing with it like belittling each other or not validating a partner’s emotions (to name a few). As your couples/sex therapist, I can help with: Reconnecting to create security and safety in the relationship; Rebuilding trust and safety after an affair/infidelity; Communication issues; Couple goals/vision; Sex and intimacy issues; Parenting issues; Co-parenting; Separation and transition.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
