The poet, Mark Doty, writes: "What did you think, that joy was some slight thing?" The common view of therapy is that it's a place to unload & unpack the hardships & woes that burden you. Many of us are accustomed to thinking that joy is 'some slight thing', that our shadows are far more complex, dynamic & compelling. Contrary to this, my experiences as a therapist reveal to me how people's resilience, hopes & dreams are far more sophisticated & worthy of examination than the tricks & underbellies of their so-called demons. I am passionate about helping people reclaim joy & vitality; to find possibilities where they only see walls.
I use an empowering, compassionate, & non-pathologizing approach that aims to help people recover their innate capacities for aliveness, connection & transformation. The primary modality I use in order to facilitate this is IFS (Internal Family Systems) therapy a.k.a parts work founded by Dr. Richard Schwartz. My style is real, gritty, honest and playful.
To me, therapy is more than just treating problems; I feel it is an honour and privilege to help people transmute pain and suffering into growth and wisdom. I know this is possible because I have experienced it myself.
