I believe people want to be heard, seen and validated. It can be challenging to find your voice and identity. Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, and Addiction just add to that weight, fueling avoidance and hopelessness. Trying to navigate all of this alone may feel overwhelming and impossible. You don’t have to go it alone. I would be elated to help! I am accepting new clients for in person therapy and tele-health. I work with teens and adults of all ages.

These experiences have equipped me to work with clients with a wide range of concerns including chronic illness, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, infertility, and grief/loss.
The name of my business, Resilient Roots Counseling, captures the essence of my therapeutic philosophy. I believe we set down roots as we journey through life. Sometimes we grow abundantly through rich, fertile soil. Other times we must grow despite rocky, unproductive dirt. In these times, we can find healthy ways to cope and learn to be resilient. As a therapist, I will come alongside you as you work through your challenges, whether it be past or present. I will listen with empathy and compassion and provide tools to help you on your journey. I will encourage you to discover your authentic self and find ways to thrive.

I became a therapist because I saw the importance of sharing our stories without fear of judgment. It’s because of this understanding that I strive to create a space for you to feel safe to be your true self no matter where you are in your mental health journey. When working together, we will focus on your individual needs and goals–these could include anxiety, depression, life transitions, family conflict, or trauma just to name a few. Overall, my goal is to provide support in whatever area you're seeking therapy for.

I help people who feel stuck in the constant cycle of anxiety find more peace and enjoyment in life.
What brought you to this point today? Maybe you yelled at your kids or snapped at your husband. Are you crying often, not sleeping well, and on edge? Do you have panic attacks and intrusive thoughts that limit what you can do? Life is full of changes: a new baby, a recent move, a job change, or a relationship lost. Adjusting to change is hard. You are doing your best to hold it all together, but you know now is the time to reach out; I can help. There is HOPE for a life with greater PEACE without constant worries, ruminations, or intrusive thoughts.

Hey there! If you’ve found your way here, chances are high that you’ve spent at least part of your life stuck in struggle. Feeling like you have to constantly push through just to make it through your day and feeling powerless over it all. I get it. I know it’s not easy feeling overwhelmed with the anxiety of trying to figure it all out on your own. You deserve to be empowered, find freedom, and to have ownership over your life.

I am a mental health counselor and I specialize in trauma, depression and anxiety, incorporating CBT, Narrative Therapy, and art. I am a trauma-informed therapist. I know the word trauma is both scary and popular right now. My graduate degree was pointed towards PTSD and that's the space I like to work in. This doesn't mean that other mental health issues cannot be addressed during our work together. I like to get a detailed history of one's life, to include childhood and relationships history, past and current coping skills, some of which might have become more detrimental than helpful.

Deciding to come to counseling is a first step toward improving lives. I can help with anxiety, depression, coping skills, communication, and transitions. Talking to someone who can see things from an outside perspective can help you determine how to improve what is not working in your life, set goals, and learn new skills which will move you toward that goal.

In order to be effective, therapy has to be reality based. Yes, we have a brain, but we are more than a brain. We are more than a body; we're more than our trauma. We are complex, multi level souls. Parts of our psyche get stuck, stranded through trauma or neglect and our individuality languishes. So we adapt. These adaptations become obstacles to living rich and full lives; instead we're anxious, depressed, conflicted, or hopeless. All is not lost, however, because behind the distress remains the untouched essence of your being longing for liberation. I am here to help free you from the bondage of your past.

You’re on a unique journey. Your struggle matters. If you are reading this chances are you may be struggling in a particular area of life or with patterns of thinking, behaving, and relating that are no longer serving your deeper intentions. When we are no longer aligned with our deeper intentions, we can start to feel anxious or depressed, or our relationships can suffer. Often outdated modes of coping learned early in life can become counterproductive. When we can increase positive coping, better regulate our emotions, and understand what our emotions are trying to tell us, we have increased success in all areas of life.

Therapy is a significant resource if you are in a time of transition, confusion, loss, struggling with feelings of depression or anxiety.
I am trained in both EMDR and clinical hypnotherapy, which provide me with excellent tools to help you to discover the deeper meanings of the issues you are currently dealing with. These modalities enable my clients to see the bigger picture and are excellent tools for releasing trauma, desensitizing old pain and triggers and envisioning a new future. Real and lasting change can only happen when you heal the wound at its source, which can sometimes be deep inside the unconscious mind.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
