I practice an open and genuine relationship with clients, focusing on helping them grow from their experiences to become the best version of themselves. I utilize many therapeutic techniques to form a diverse approach because everyone is different. Therefore, I collaborate with each client to find the most effective treatments.

My approach to counseling closely mirrors my view of life: there is no one-size-fits-all answer. I use a multifaceted approach to counseling, pulling from the core theoretical approaches of CBT, Person-Centered, and DBT. I believe that as humans, we were created for connection with others. We all experience unexpected circumstances that make life challenging, and attempting to balance life's challenges on our own can be confusing and frustrating. I focus on helping my clients discover their self-worth and core values in order to help them build a life they are proud of.

My intent within my practice is create a safe space for all of your experiences. I have been dedicated to providing community mental health interventions for the past 10 years. I have extensive training and experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy, stage-based trauma therapy, LGBTQIA-affirmative therapy, and couples and family therapy. I have always been interested in the effects of trauma on one's life. Trauma has many effects that most don't consider. I have learned how to assist people in creating a loved life in spite of any trauma they have experienced.

As a bilingual counselor (proud owner of JML Counseling), I seek to make a difference in the lives of adolescents, young and middle-aged adults of all backgrounds and nationalities. I believe solutions to life’s entanglements can be discovered in nonjudgmental conversations and honest reflection. My approach to counseling is simple- seek answers from within. With minor personal adjustments and partnering with a skilled “listener,” individuals and couples can attain their therapeutic goals.

I graduated from UTSA in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Sociology and Philosophy and again in 2015 with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I worked in higher education, counseling college students for nine years. While I have a passion for helping young adults navigate their mental health, I equally enjoy working with teens, couples and families. I draw from various therapeutic styles, including CBT and Relational-Cultural Theory. I enjoy taking a person-centered approach to journey alongside my clients throughout the therapeutic process.

Sometimes life feels like it gets so big that we feel that getting a solid grip on it is impossible. I work with the individual to help them see that the problem is not as big as it may seem. We work together, by using their tools and strengths, to break it down to a manageable size. This allows the client to create a better way of coping with the issues.

I’m Linda and I am an individual very similar to you. I have participated in therapy to overcome divorce, abuse, codependency, debilitating stress, and family issues. I continue to find my authentic self to be an individual who lives to pay it forward. I have a BS in Psychology and MS in Counseling Mental Health. I am a licensed both as a professional counselor (LPC) and a chemical dependency counselor (LCDC), and hold certification as a national counselor (NCC.)

Over the course of my career, I have worked with various populations of teen and adult clients in the mental health field. I can honestly say that I love what I do and have always found a unique way to connect with each client. I believe it is important to view each person who I meet with an intersectional and unbiased lens and to construct a treatment plan and therapy style for each client that is in line with not just their specific mental health needs, but their personality, sense of humor, and values.

Making the choice to seek counseling is a courageous one. I will guide you through the therapy process in a safe and caring atmosphere that will foster trust and help you make the changes you desire. I have over 10 years of experience helping individuals, couples, families find peace and healing in their life struggles. There are many times in our life when we do not feel or think we are cared about or understood. It can be disheartening as it feeds into our negative self-talk and impacts multiple relationships. It isn't necessarily the "fitting in" part that gets to us...it's the "who is going to accept me for me, with all of my emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and lifestyle choices?" Whether it's the people we love, the career path we chose, the trauma we have encountered, or who we have become, we are all just trying to improve our situation while still respecting who we are as individuals.
