Recognize this scenario? Lingering negative experiences from your past are impacting your present, evoking feelings of shame, anxiety, and distrust. You are feeling disconnected from your partner and your sex life is not what you would like for it to be. Maybe you’ve stopped having sex altogether. Every attempt at communication about the issues in your relationship becomes an argument and you don’t know how you got into this cycle or how to get out of it. You’re wondering if these problems are beyond repair and you feel so alone. It doesn't have to stay this way.

Using Family Systems Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Therapy can be very helpful in addressing problems you may be having in your life. If you struggle with relationship problems, decision making, depression, anxiety, self esteem, impluse control, trauma, substance abuse, grief, addiction or life transitions; I can provide a neutral non-judgmental space to explore and resolve these issues. Many people believe they should be able to solve problems on their own and seek help often waiting until the situation has grown unmanageable. However, early interventions and proactive actions tend to lesson the impact of painful experiences, allowing you to move past problems more easily and quickly.

No matter what your struggles may be, my goal is to meet you where you are, help identify your strengths and build on those as we work toward the change you desire. My clients feel heard, and they are equipped with tools to find balance in their daily lives. Whether people come because they are depressed or overwhelmed with anxiety, their marriage is in trouble or they want to strengthen a strong relationship, my goal is the same: we manage immediate challenges while developing a plan to confront the deeper issues that prevent them from leading a balanced life.

My life experiences contribute to my compassionate heart and deep desire to serve those who are hurting, to walk alongside others on their journey to positive emotional and mental health. Women going through a divorce, struggling with the issues of life, teenage girls hurting from negative influences in their lives, couples desiring to reconcile after infidelity or even those couples who have just drifted apart over the years looking to reconnect. All of us can benefit from talking with someone outside the emotions who can empathize yet offer wisdom and insight.

Relationships are what humans were created for and can be extremely life-giving. However, sometimes we go through hardships that may create distance or unhealthy behavior patterns in these relationships. As a counselor and former educator using a holistic approach, I take into consideration the unique needs and strengths of each individual I work with. I strive to create a non-judgemental space where clients feel heard and understood. By utilizing evidence-based techniques, I assist clients in identifying patterns, gaining self-awareness and developing practical tools to overcome obstacles.

Life can be hard, and even harder when your past gets in the way of your present and future. Sometimes issues such as being LGBTQ+,culture, religion, or a being a blended family makes relationships harder or more complicated. Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
