Hello! I'm a health and performance psychologist. I'm warm, experienced, genuine, and dedicated to helping people reach their full potential at work, in sport/the arts, and in life. That often involves helping people find ways to thrive in the face of health and pain concerns. I have graduate degrees in Kinesiology, Counseling Psychology (Maryland) and postdoctoral training in chronic pain research from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. I've walked the walk as a former NCAA athlete (golf) and someone who has personally dealt with health concerns.

Therapy can be a revelatory process and can bring us back to who we are at our core. I'm a therapist specializing in womanhood– managing stress and burnout; adjustment to motherhood; mid-life challenges including overwhelm and overdoing; and the mature woman navigating mind-body and relationship changes. I have expertise in healing from toxic families and relationships. I'm adept at working toward the realest version of you, leaving behind what no longer works and helping you build strategies for growth. Change is never easy, but it's doable with grace, humor, and the use of real tools that I develop with my clients.

It takes a lot of courage to seek help, especially in a world that unfairly stigmatizes getting psychological services. Lack of understanding of what therapy is and how people can benefit from it prevents some from using professional services to know and understand themselves better, to improve relationships, and to live more meaningful, fulfilling lives regardless of their challenges. Sometimes people have troubling symptoms due to anxiety, depression, and other disorders and need help to address these symptoms and their causes. I use a variety of approaches to help clients. My goal is to empower clients through a healthy, therapeutic relationship.

Transpersonal Therapists

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
