I work under the motto, "The sun will rise and set regardless. What we choose to do with the light while its here is up to us..." I fully believe in journeying with my clients through treatment. I truly enjoy working with my clients on the variety of life's ups and downs. Generally, most of my work is with adults; however, I also see adolescents beginning at 16-years-old. Over the years, I have worked with depression, anxiety, trauma, and some of the more severe mental health problems. My other experience includes working with self-harm and suicidal behaviors, as well as behavior management.

Well hello, and welcome to step one of the therapeutic process - finding a therapist. Take a deep breath, and trust your gut. In our work, our goal is to enable clients to live in the here-and-now, take notice of their own experiences, and harness the power that already resides inside in order to create change and live happier, healthier lives. Reviive believes life is about two things: loving and learning, and through our work together clients will be encouraged to reveal and learn from what was or has been, in order to heal and love what is.

Hi, my name is Miatta! Life comes with its challenges, and we often find ourselves unsure of it all. I’m so proud of you for taking the first steps towards the change you’re searching for. Maybe you’re feeling uneasy, anxious and sad, struggling to find yourself, and where you fit in the world. Could be your personal relationships are struggling, without explanation, and you’re just trying to figure out life. There are so many changes in life, and they often bring about hard emotions. Sometimes those situations start to make us feel unseen, unheard, lonely, and powerless, within ourselves.

Life can be challenging and unpredictable, it sometimes throws curve balls that catch us completely off guard. It is during those times that we all can use extra support in order to overcome these obstacles and barriers. I commend you for realizing your need for external support and taking this all important first step of seeking counseling, although it may be slightly scary and intimidating for you as well as even go against your cultural background. I have found that therapy works best when we work in partnership together to resolve your issues.

My ideal client is someone who feels the weight of anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma, especially those navigating the unique challenges of being first-generation or the child of immigrants, those struggling through psychosis, or navigating developmental disabilities. They seek to break free from inherited patterns, heal from past wounds, and build a life that honors their true self. I strive to encourage mental health acceptance through contemporary and engaging methods that seek the root causes of trauma and aim for lasting and sustainable healing.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
