I have several years of experience working with those who battle with depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, alcohol and substance use.
One of the goals of counseling is to gain knowledge and insight into problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, and relationship issues. I believe that a person can come into the knowledge of self to regain control, motivation, and self-worth to reach their full potential. In this I believe in establishing realistic and achievable goals for individuals and families that will bring forth true freedom. I incorporate several therapeutic techniques and interventions that are designed for the individual client that includes but not limited to; person centered, brief solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

I also have many years of experience in working with substance use disorders.
We all could benefit greatly from talk therapy and having someone in our lives that we feel comfortable talking freely with without the fear of being judged. Through talk therapy, you are able to gain a better understanding of your emotions, cope with stress, overcome anxiety and insecurities, process previous traumatic experiences, work on breaking unhealthy habits, and discuss possible lifestyle changes. I have extensive experience in providing talk therapy services to individuals from all walks of life.

Hi, Brave Soul! Regardless of what transitional season you are currently in, you can rise above it. You've experienced many hardships, challenges, and arduous seasons. Don't remain there. Life is meant to be lived in abundance. You deserve an amazing and thriving life. But you may ask, " Where do I even start? Can I do this? or How?" Yes, you can DO THIS! It starts with YOU taking the first step in accepting help. We will sort life out and learn "how to" alongside me. Recognize there is no perfect time to start. Banish the fear and take the leap of faith. The time to start is NOW. One action, one day at a time.

Counseling is not just an educational endeavor for me, it is my true life’s passion. As my primary spiritual/natural gift, my purpose on earth is to utilize my counseling skills to serve others in any capacity that I can. We have all felt sad, angry, lonely, misunderstood, unforgiven, misused, abused, fed up, and so on and so forth. Our goal in therapy would be to examine your emotional well being and how it impacts your life. While you process through everything from past trauma to current conflicts, it is significant to know that your growth and healing is what is most important to me.

Recognizing the need to work on a problem demonstrates courage. Perhaps you are out of ideas for how to cope with a troubled marriage/relationship or a strained relationship with your child or teen. Maybe you are depressed or anxious, experiencing job burnout, and nothing you've tried has helped. You might have a vision of how you want life to change, but need a calm and supportive place to work out how to get there. In times like these, you want someone to understand you, help you redefine your strengths, and offer some new options.

In 2023, adolescents face many pressures that adults have never experienced. Social media has created an environment that forces children and adults alike to be constantly "on", creating a level of anxiety that is unparalleled. Therapy is an outlet that is not only no longer stigmatized, but a necessity in order to grow and thrive in a healthy way. I specialize in assisting teens and adults with their anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Therapy should not be a last ditch effort to save one's relationships - it should be consistent maintenance of oneself.

We have all faced mounting moments of adversity, trauma, and tragedy. Those moments can cause one to feel rejected, overwhelmed, and hopeless. The stressors of life can cause you to feel like it is too difficult to continue. However, difficult does not mean impossible.

Many people struggle from time to time with a variety of mental and emotional issues. One of the best assets a therapist can have is listening. Life happens, and sometimes life happens hard. Do you find that when you fall, you have a hard time getting back up again? Do you feel stuck and like you can’t find your way out? I often come across people just like you; feeling a loss of identity, questioning themselves, and whether or not they have purpose. The hurt and pain you’ve endured can obscure this one truth: YOU, My Dear, have purpose.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
