I specialize in providing trauma based therapeutic interventions, while focusing on the somatic experiences of where trauma is stored/harbored in our bodies to develop tools for regulation and healing.
I believe everyone has the narrative to their own story and the answer they seek is within; sometimes it just needs a little compassionate digging. Because therapy isn't a life time based resource, I believe in empowering individuals to discover their own inner resource pool and teach new coping techniques to continue to build resilience and self compassion. My approach is race informed, trauma informed, and LGBTQIA+ friendly. The systems built around us exacerbate the amount of trauma we experience and further damage our capacity for recovery.

I specifically treat mothers because as holders of reality and pain for others, mothers healers often find themselves deprived of the care that they graciously give others. As a result, they are left to bear the weight of their pain alone. If you are a mother who also cares for others as a profession, you are caretaking in your professional and personal life. The reality is that you need the holding container that you give others. Seeking therapy for yourself is paramount to your ability to provide competent care without experiencing burnout. This is the best form of self care.

It’s not just you, we’re all doing our best to deal with the stresses of modern life and it seems many of us are becoming increasingly overwhelmed. I companion adults who feel they are being stretched to the breaking point by one or more of those "bigger issues" in life that threaten our over-all wellbeing, if not our very existence: Identity, Isolation, Death, Meaning, Freedom, and Happiness. With a background in healthcare and advanced training in pastoral care and counseling, I’m going to respect and honor you as a person no matter what issues or troubles you bring with you into our conversations.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
