I am not the type of therapist that sits in a chair and nods silently at everything you say. My approach is warm, direct and healing on multi-levels. Depending on each individual case we can explore talking your story, expanding your breath, expressing ranges of emotion or moving your body. I consider my work and the space I hold as sacred. There are many doorways into the experience of freedom and together we can find the one that fits your Self.

Now accepting clients for the 24-25 school year. I am fascinated by the resilience of the human body/mind to withstand stress and continue to grow. How we evolve in reaction to adversity can be automatic or we can learn to have more choice in our responsiveness. Therapy is the process of learning to slow down, reflect, and move forward with greater influence over our actions. Connecting teens with the ability to be self-reflective early in their lives will be a resource as they mature. Adolescence is a potent time to intervene with self-destructive behaviors and course correct for success.

Adults: You are probably seeking therapy because something in your life is just not working. You might feel stuck, or that you are repeating familiar and unhealthy patterns in your close relationships, leading to frustration. I empathize with this frustration and work with you to more deeply understand yourself so that you can enact real and lasting change. My extensive psychodynamic and Jungian training support this type of work. Child Therapy: As a parent, you and your family may need extra support. I work with, and have extensive experience with children as young as 3, and throughout the teen and young adult years.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
