I’ve been in the mental health field for over 20 years and have been providing clinical care since 2011. I’ve worked with first responders crisis settings and provided services to first responders in a therapeutic environment. I work a lot with domestic violence, sexual trauma, and human trafficking. I pull from several modalities including CBT, trauma-focused CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, solutions focused, strength-based, and reality therapy. I like working with people who are motivated to improve their lives. Because I work with such a wide range of issues, I can be helpful and supportive in many different areas.

I specialize in supporting teenagers and adults who have recently faced sexual assault and/or relationship abuse. Many of my clients feel lost, emotionally overwhelmed, and struggle with understanding how their identities have been changed. They often experience a sense of isolation from their usual support networks and find it challenging to access joy and relaxation in their lives. Additionally, they may have developed a fear of men or relationships in general, making it difficult for them to feel connected and safe in their own bodies.

From physical and emotional abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, traumatic grief, and substance use related issues, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside and supporting children, and their families, as they begin to experience hope and overcome challenges.
Have you watched your child struggle, feeling hopeless and defeated? Have you wondered why parenting this child feels so hard? Do you ever feel like you're at the end of your rope and you have no idea what comes next, but you know that something has to change? I'm Mollie, and my goal is to offer support and encouragement in these seasons that can feel dark and hopeless. Being a kid in today’s world is not easy, and making decisions as parents can be just as challenging. I believe every family has the ability to grow and overcome challenges together.

My specialties include working with survivors of trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
Working with a therapist should feel safe, and that has remained one of my top priorities over my 10+ years of providing therapy. Some of my clients have had therapists before, some are changing therapists, and others are brand new to therapy. Many of my clients are working through previous trauma (childhood and adulthood), have experienced complicated loss, and many belong to a marginalized community. Some of my clients benefit from long-term therapy, while others engage in brief therapy to help get back on track to a better quality of life. Wherever you are in this process, I welcome you!

Accepting New Clients: Symptoms often emerge as adaptive mechanisms and solutions to address events and emotions. This is particularly applicable to survivors of trauma, encompassing physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, as well as other experiences involving loss and grief. These symptoms can shift from being solutions to becoming the very problems clients aim to address in therapy in pursuit of relief. In addition to imparting new coping strategies designed to alleviate these symptoms, when applicable, clients are also supported in addressing the underlying issues that gave rise to the development of these symptoms. a

As a trauma specialist, I utilize person-centered, narrative and expressive art therapies to support trauma survivors of all kinds, with an emphasis on people who have been impacted by sexual assault, intimate partner violence and hate-motivated violence.
During times of struggle, you have an absolute right to support from an attentive, warm, trustworthy witness - someone who believes in your strength and brilliance when you can no longer see it, and who stands by your side as you emerge as the architect of your own healing. My work and my passion is to be that witness. I entered into the field of mental health to uplift the experiences of those who often struggle to find responsive and attuned care. As a queer, biracial, Latine therapist and advocate, I am wholly dedicated to opening a space with you through which you can experience repair, discovery, growth and transformation.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
