Welcome! Please take your time to choose a therapist that you feel would be a good fit—doing so is vital to the overall process of therapy. My style? I want clients who are ready to learn, grow, and finally feel in control of their lives again. I am very passionate about my work and will give you resources in between sessions so that you aren't limited to progressing just once a week for 45 minutes or an hour. Chelsea holds advanced training in couple therapy (EFT). She understands the negative pattern that couples get stuck in that quickly takes over their relationship; those moments when you say something clearly to your partner and they hear something completely opposite of what your intentions were and before you know it, we are in a fight. Chelsea helps couples to understand those patterns and help to not get stuck in them. Individuals who are seen at her practice, understand distress in their lives and are able to make sense of it and find the tools to move forward in a way that feels right for them.

You deserve to be happy, every person does, but life is hard. It can feel like you're barely keeping your nose above the water on the best of days; on the worst of days you feel thousands of feet below the water. Everyday stresses are hard enough, but trauma, depression, and/or anxiety are like weights tied to your ankles, making it even harder to stay afloat. Even worse, society makes us feel defective if we admit to needing help, but society is so very wrong. It takes great strength to ask for help. You're reading this, looking for someone to remove the weights from your ankles and give you a life raft. I can do that for you.

My name is April Garcia, I am a therapist that provides Telehealth services in both English and Spanish. I am a firm believer that therapy is for everyone, and we should all experience therapy at least once in our lives. Why? Because therapy provides a safe place to express ourselves and heal. It is a way to bring forward the traumas that sometimes we try to bury down and keep hidden, it is a way to understand ourselves and those around us better, and also a way to become the best version of us we can be.

I believe in, and practice from, a relational perspective to address substance use and mental health concerns. I believe in an individualized approach to meeting my clients where they are and addressing the concerns they believe are most relevant, which helps them reach their full potential for happiness and personal growth. I am a cognitive guy who believes that many of the problems we face can be overcome by examining the way our beliefs influence our thoughts, which influence everything else. It often comes down to thinking about how you think.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
