I specialize in working with issues around the postpartum period, including infertility, birth trauma, grief and loss and other challenges related to becoming a parent.
I work hard to be as trauma informed and culturally competent as possible to make my office a safe place for people to show up as they are. I have many helpful tools including EMDR and IFS, but above all I help people find the tools inside of themselves to regulate their nervous system and bring inner safety with them everywhere they go.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I am also an AAMFT-approved supervisor. I have two pre-teen kiddos and a wonderful wife who keeps me focused. Originally from Louisiana, I have moved all over the country but have resided in Utah for about 8 years. I enjoy traveling, good food, and the theater (whether movies or stage productions). I have always enjoyed getting to know people. Talking with new people is interesting and exciting for me. I enjoy helping people reach their goals. I look at life like a big puzzle, and I love puzzles!

As humans, we are hard-wired for connection. Relationships shape beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world around us. These core beliefs influence our inner world (thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations) and our interactions with others.

I also work closely with parents so you feel more confident supporting your child at home and building a strong relationship.
If you can tell something is going on with your child or teen, but you are not sure how to reach them. Or they have become more withdrawn, more anxious, or they keep everything inside and will not talk about it. Please reach out. As a mother of six, I understand how much you want to help your child feel better, and how hard it can be when you are not sure what to do. For teens, it can be especially hard to put feelings into words. What looks like shutting down is often anxiety or feeling misunderstood. For younger children, it can show up through frustration or big emotions they do not yet know how to manage.

If life has you feeling like Atlas bearing the weight of the sky or Sisyphus pushing a boulder up the mountain, you may have lost the purpose and peace that makes life meaningful. Battles and challenges of existence leave us with invisible weights and chains, stifling our voice, our will, and our inner power. I specialize in working with neurodivergency, caregivers, and women; those learning to unmask and embrace their truth, or those who are navigating overwhelming life transitions and identity shifts. Whatever your needs may be, therapy can be a space to rest, to rediscover your voice, and to remember who you are and once were.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
