You know this sudden rush of emotions, when your heart is racing with memories of a time long gone but not forgotten. Maybe your palms are getting damp, and you feel your throat tightening - almost choking - as you remember painful memories of either childhood abuse, a painful breakup, or other shadows of the past – it's like being caught in a storm of past pain with a ton of emotions. Life is rough and now more than ever people are feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how they should manage their relationships, careers, and lives — however, you don’t have to walk through this on your own.

I’m committed to providing my full attention and support in helping people work toward positive changes that align with their own values and goals. I work with adults and adolescents, and I take an eclectic and holistic approach to help with concerns that may include mental health, stress, trauma, grief, addiction, relationships, or adjusting to life changes. This may be a matter of short-term counseling to strengthen coping skills or overcome a specific challenge, or more in-depth therapy to better understand and resolve deeper patterns and issues.

Stephanie K. Starks, LISW-S, is a therapist and owner of Starks Counseling & Consultation Services, LLC . She 20 years of experience providing trauma-focused therapy. The goal at Starks Counseling is to provide “hope and healing” in a calm, supportive, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment. She and her staff do this by empowering their clients with the knowledge, skills and confidence to be active participants in their own healing, as they believe that they are all simply vessels in which to help facilitate the healing process.

I work with individuals and couples. While my specialization and license are in the area of couple therapy, I believe strongly that individual work is what leads to harmony in relationships. Childhood trauma is one of my important areas of focus in sessions, so as to help clients remove psychological blocks. My desire is to create a space where each person can reach for his/her highest growth potential. Couples often seek therapy when their relationship is on its last leg, hoping that I might have "the magic wand". It is when both partners are invested in self-growth that therapy works its magic to help create a stronger couple.

I am a licensed independent social worker with a diverse background that enriches my approach to therapy. My academic journey included studies in hospitality, Spanish, and geography, culminating in a master’s degree in social work from Ohio University in 2018. I have worked with adults and older teenagers from various backgrounds, with a focus on serving the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV. In community mental health and private practice settings, I have supported clients facing a spectrum of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, & interpersonal issues.

I focus on my clients struggles in the moment and let them know that working with me means being in a safe, non-judgmental space. I want to help those through the difficult times in their lives and help my clients become and grow to who they want to be. I welcome my clients with kindness, professionalism, and empathy. Many of my clients have stated the one thing that they appreciate about me is that I am myself with them and it makes them feel comfortable to open up about their struggles and be honest.

Hello! It's so nice to meet you! I know reaching out for help is not easy and I want to applaud your strength in beginning this journey. My practice is solely online! What does this mean for you? No commute, No parking, and no awkward waiting rooms. We meet via a secure HIPAA compliant connection either through video, audio, chat or direct messaging. My journey to becoming your therapist has come with colorful experiences. "Imagine your ideal client. What are their issues, their needs, their goals? What do they want and why?" was the prompt. My ideal client is one that is open to work towards working on their personal goals. Any of their issues, needs, or goals would be of upmost importance. I have worked in the field of social work since 2004. My experiences has allowed me to work with many populations.
