I am a Licensed Clinical Counselor and Supervisor with an expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Maudsley Family Based Therapy (FBT). I am passionate about the work that I do and in the process of change. My goal is to create an environment and relationship conducive to growth and progress.

She provides couples therapy to foster positive communication skills and implement unique techniques that foster a deeper level of emotional intimacy. Melissa also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and treats clients with anxiety and depression. Melissa desires that clients develop self empowerment and wholeness one conversation at a time.

If you're a parent, you've probably been to countless parent-teacher conferences where the teacher tells you all about how great your child's personality is, but that they are failing to reach their full potential in class. Maybe, you and your child spend 2-3 hours at the table EACH night, where you teach (and re-teach!) lessons, only to find your daughter still managed to fail her test the next day! Or just maybe, you're in your 1st-year college math class and can't seem to figure out how the numbers are supposed to go together because you just narrowly passed Algebra in high school and you've NEVER been good at math.

I especially enjoy working with families with school age children who are experiencing challenges related to high conflict divorce, adoption or other trauma-related issues. I like to combine parent guidance and support with play therapy for their child. My approach is active and engaged. I am also happy to see adolescents and adults who are going through transitions in their lives that may be causing them worry or anxiety.

It has been my privilege to help people develop lives that are deeply meaningful and emotionally satisfying. Psychotherapy is not a set of tricks or techniques. Rather, it is a personal relationship that affects people on a number of levels. Most of my clients come away from the process with some new practical skills and new, more adaptive ways of looking at life. They also hone their capacities to look at themselves, with more insight and greater self-understanding. Particularly rewarding for me has been my work with families, assisting them in healing from the wounds and fractures of divorce.

Having received training in both Clinical and Forensic psychology, I deliver targeted Behavioral, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral (DBT) Therapies to diverse client populations, tailored to the specific needs of each individual. I specialize in treating adolescents and adults with Personality Disorders (Borderline, Narcissistic, Antisocial), Behavioral Disorders (Oppositional Defiant, Anger), Mood Disorders (Anxiety, Depression), and Sexual Dysfunction. I also treat violent and non-violent criminal offenders, sex offenders, perpetrators of domestic violence, and various other forensic populations.

Trauma or life circumstances can disrupt multiple facets of life (e.g. career, family, education, self-esteem, self-identity, or a sense of security) which may be overwhelming and increases the risk of isolation, depression, anxiety, grief as well as detachment from the community. The space of therapy is a place for you to reconnect with a sense of self, happiness, feel safe, hope, and be comfortable in a place where all are accepted. I am also a Grief Recovery Method Specialist (call for more information). I work with Medical Students at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

I have had the opportunity to work at a wide range of mental health organizations including public and alternative schools, residential facilities, and outpatient mental health clinics focusing on treating children, adolescents, adults, and their families. From those experiences, I have learned the importance of approaching therapy systemically and collaboratively. I look forward to helping my patients feel empowered in and out of sessions!
