I also work with people dealing with stress management, interpersonal conflicts due to Borderline Personality Disorder and adolescent disorders.
When is it time to seek counseling? Well, for each person it is different. This is because everyone has their own breaking point - a point where stress or trauma becomes so overwhelming that it becomes harder to engage in normal everyday activities. If your stress is interfering with your sleep, parenting, or work then it is probably a good time to get assistance to work through the issues. I offer a safe and confidential environment to address these issues and find practical solutions in order for you to gain emotional relief.

Every teenager seeks autonomy and independence.
I offer psychotherapy and psychological testing for teenagers and adults. Adults seek help for ADHD, anxiety or mood disorders. I help them find meaning, purpose, and joy as they function more fully at home and work. Also, I work with teenagers who underachieve and present behavior challenges, mood disorders and various types of anxiety. When working with teens, I also work closely with parents to help them learn how to encourage their kid's growth toward autonomy and self-direction. It is a joy to encounter parents and teenagers as they learn to cooperate, rather than to struggle against each other.

I specialize in anxiety disorders, adolescent issues, marital/relationship issues, and family conflicts.
As a clinical counselor, I have always had a passion for helping people, and truly value the therapeutic relationship. I form genuine connections by providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment, virtually and in person. I am a great listener, and if that's all you need that's okay. If you aren't sure what you need, that's okay too! I can help people discover their strengths and confront their weaknesses. My treatment methods vary depending on the person and their needs, but I tend to be client-centered and solution-focused with my counseling interventions. My approach is supportive, honest, realistic, and understanding.

I will work collaboratively with you to identify and remove obstacles that currently hinder you from accessing your inner wisdom and ability to heal.Because no two people are exactly alike there is no one therapy method that can address the needs of every person. To honor your individuality I utilize an integrative approach with emphasis from client-centered, strength based, mindfulness based and somatic methods. I am a level 2 graduate of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I am currently pursuing my certification in Sensorimotor Psychotherpy.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
