Understanding one's vulnerabilities, emotions, relationships fears and needs is what therapy is about. I work with individuals and couples with a range of presenting problems such as anxiety, depression, childhood and relationship issues. My style is to actively engage you in a non-judgmental way, always sensitive to creating an environment of trust in our sessions. Therapy helps you look at yourself through a different lens so that you can understand the conflicts and distress that present in your life, and use that insight to change them.

Therapy is a collaborative partnership that functions optimally when there is a positive, working alliance and authentic attachment between a client and therapist. Goals must be focused and must reflect the issues that are most compelling for the client. A therapist should be nonjudgmental, empathetic and present. Respect for each client's journey supports the development of trust and connection, allowing each client to develop a new and empowering narrative that helps them to reshape their lives.

Hello Friend, I support teens & adults (ages 13-60) who have difficulties. I aim to help people understand these issues & guide them to make a plan that fits. They unlock their potential in areas of life they feel are important: friends, family, work, school, etc. I'm client-focused & use science-based methods. Towards the bottom of my profile, I describe difficulties & symptoms that I treat. I welcome anyone who wants help, even if they aren't sure what they need or what to do. We can figure it out together. I am proud to support clients of all backgrounds: culturally, neurodivergent (ASD), parents, LGBTQIA+ community, etc.

Not accepting new clients
x- I will be accepting new clients in May -x I am focusing on the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress, relationship problems, insomnia, and chronic pain. These challenging experiences can interfere with our ability to live a meaningful life, but they can also lead to mastery, resiliency, and growth once we make the commitment to act in congruence with our personal values despite the obstacles. I will provide a supportive environment in which you can identify/clarify your values, develop short- and long-term treatment goals, and access the skills to achieve them.

For 25+ years I've witnessed profound changes in my clients. When we understand what triggers us, we become less reactive and more present. This allows for growth, peace and contentment. I work with individuals, couples and families struggling with relationships, depression, stress, and anxiety. I take a culturally sensitive approach to working with clients including couples from different backgrounds. My treatment is psychodynamic and compassion oriented. I strongly believe that people can change and relationships can improve. These are challenging times, caring for our mental health is critical.

What is a “mindful parent,” exactly? A mindful parent is the one that asks: how do I know that what I am doing is preparing my child mentally and emotionally for an increasingly complex future? How do I optimize the relationship I have with them right now to better ensure they become an adult that is empowered not entitled, self-reliant and compassionate, curious, and competent in a world of increasing artifice? Those are great questions and, luckily, we have the answers. Developmental research has identified ways you can enhance the parent-child relationship to prepare your child for a more secure, autonomous adulthood.

Are you tired of working so hard in life but feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled? On the outside, things may look like everything is going well. But inside, your emotions, personal struggles and/or relationship challenges are bringing you down. Sometimes painful life events can damage your ability to have healthy relationships, and a fulfilling life. You don't have to be crippled by anxiety, anger, fear, shame, and intrusive negative thoughts. These symptoms can destroy relationships and isolate you, limiting your ability to feel safe and calm in any environment. Our goal is to help you move past these events, reclaim your life, and feel happy again.

As an art therapist, I am both a licensed mental health professional and an artist. The art therapy space is supportive and nonjudgmental, and filled with art supplies. Put together, art therapy helps clients work through problems and uncomfortable feelings creatively, and can open new doors to self-understanding and coping. Art can connect, ground, and inspire us; it can also offer a level of playfulness that we don’t always have time for as adults. Being a human is hard, and I strive to offer a space where people can be their authentic selves, be creative, and receive and internalize unconditional positive regard.

While I have vast experience supporting parents, caregivers and veterans, I have a true passion for empowering students and young adults. While adolescence is sometimes challenging, it is an amazing time for self-exploration and growth.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
