It is my belief that through exploration and collaboration, your life can change for the better. "Courage doesn't happen when you have all the answers. It happens when you are ready to face the questions you have been avoiding your whole life." ~ Shannon L. Alder. I enjoy working closely with people and I am honored when they share their lives with me. I've spent my entire career walking with people through difficult times, mental illness and the challenges associated with parenting today's youth.

Seeking to connect with a therapist or counselor during challenging times in our lifetime is a courageous act; one in which is not to be taken lightly. As a first-generation immigrant, familiarity with cultural norms and expectations can be oftentimes misunderstood. Each of us have our own unique familial and cultural ways of engaging and navigating in relationships and handling marital issues, family conflicts, work stressors, and even our self-worth and self-care. I would love to assist in exploring and navigating this process with you to gain better balance in a greater, healthier, and graceful manner.

Life is challenging, and relationships can be complex. Navigating these intricacies without losing ourselves is a significant challenge. When we add factors like trauma, loss, self-esteem issues, relationship conflicts, addiction, and depression, our entire worldview can shift. My objective is to assist you in navigating this journey, discovering your truth, and guiding you toward a life that brings you happiness and peace. Overcoming internal struggles and vocalizing your thoughts are pivotal for change and growth. While nurturing healthy connections is vital for happiness, the key lies in how well you care for and honor yourself.

If you are experiencing a roadblock or facing a potentially new path or way to live, our work together would include reframing the roadblock as a potential crossroads in which neglected parts of yourself could be explored so as to live a life of greater authenticity, integrity and wholeness. With over 20 years experience, I specialize in "transitions" or what many people experience as either blocks or bridges in their lives as well as the stress that accompanies them. Even good change can be stressful and in some languages, the word for crisis actually means "opportunity."

My expertise is informed by more than 10 years in clinical practice as well as over 25 years in Human Service Practice skills. I am very compassionate and value the capacity for individuals to reach their highest desires. When conflicts are experienced in life, they can certainly be immobilizing. It is at this turning point when having a professional "outside voice" that can listen, provide guidance in a non-judgmental setting, and assist with making healthy choices will become an asset to you.

My passion is helping adults, college-age, & families reach their full potential. By engaging the patient through non- judgement & acceptance, a trusting therapeutic relationship can develop. Too often you may not feel heard by others & simply need an objective person who will listen & give feedback to whatever issue you are facing.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
