Sometimes you need an advocate that is there for you. Friends and family don’t always understand. Or maybe they are not safe to talk to about what is bothering you. I offer in-person therapy in the Jacksonville and surrounding areas AND online therapy throughout North Carolina.

Our world has changed over the past few years and it continues to be a very stressful time for us all. I would love to chat with you to see if I may be a good fit to help you navigate your own personal journey. I have had many experiences in my life that have led me into the field of mental health and substance use. I believe that there is a biological, psychological, and spiritual part of every human being and, oftentimes, these are out of balance. It is my honor to be able to assist you in finding that balance and to help you build your life worth living. I have been in practice for since 2009 and am licensed in NC & VA.

An ideal client is a person wanting to explore meaning in life, means of improvement, freedom from bondage or other factors that deter them from realizing their dreams. They may want Christian counseling or simply to understand how they can reach their goals. They are motivated to embrace life in a purposeful way, moving towards the changes they seek for their well-being. They may present with issues in mental or behavioral health, including mental illness or addictions, and are seeking ways to help prevent or lessen the presenting problems in their life. I believe counseling is a process by which we gain insight into ourselves.It is my responsibility to provide you with a safe environment to explore your thoughts and feelings. I use a combination of therapies, cognitive behavioral, reality based, person centered and motivational interviewing. I understand that every individual &situation is different, I will adapt to best fit the you. We will look at your cognitions and behaviors, to understand where you are and where you hope to be. My goal is to provide you with the strength to succeed, & with tangible resources and techniques that you can use outside of the counseling session.

Years of working with women, families and couples continues to teach me that what is valued most is relationship and a sense of being heard. For most,the therapeutic relationship and discovery of their "voice" is the beginning of transformation. What a gift for me to be part of that process. Working from the framework of Person Centered Therapy, I marvel over my client's determination and abilities to overcome their depression, anxiety, co-dependency, use of substances, and negative self images (that developed as a result of abusive histories and/or unresolved grief). Holistically heart, mind and spirit!

I am trauma focused and work with people suffering from PTSD, trauma, (especially veterans and first responders). depression, anxiety, grief, transition, military issues, separation or divorce and substance use disorders/recovery. During our initial sessions, we will form a therapeutic partnership and delve deeply into the issues at hand and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my clients see a significant lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter. My philosophy of counseling is built on unconditional positive regard.

I work with individuals/ families experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, irregular mood, stress, trauma, and behavioral issues. I also work with clients who are having a hard time adjusting to life changes, grief, and loss. I utilize a variety of interventions in order to provide the best quality of treatment for each client.

I enjoy clients 18 years of age and older dealing with any life transitions, relationship difficulties, stress, anxiety, depression or trauma. I have extensive training and experience working with service members, police officers, fire fighters, first responders and their spouses. My first four years as a therapist I worked for the United States Marine Corps Community Counseling Center and am now in private practice.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy and cognitive interpersonal therapy. I strive to develop a trusting and nonjudgmental atmosphere in which clients can grow to reach their potential and work through difficult times. I have worked in outpatient mental health for over 20 years with a variety of mental disorders including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, attachment disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD and other childhood behavioral disorders.

I work with people who feel stuck and desire freedom, healing and clarity. The people with whom I work may have mental health concerns like PTSD/trauma, anxiety, or depression, more general life concerns like transitions, relationship issues and loss, or difficulties in recovery from addiction or active substance use or other compulsive behavior(s).

I understand the importance of a collaborative relationship in therapy and believe it is the most important vehicle for change.
