I provide identity-affirming therapy to adults with intersecting marginalized identities, including (but not limited to!) folks who are queer, trans, neurodivergent, disabled, kinky, non-monogamous, as well as other marginalized identities. I also enjoy working with those who previously had poor experiences with therapy, first time therapy clients, and those who feel “different.” Cultivating deep appreciation of the ways you have survived, tending to the nervous system for ongoing healing, and with humor as needed, we will construct a narrative that feels affirming and true to you.

As a BIPOC therapist, I strive to provide culturally sensitive & affirming therapy across social identities to assist with substance misuse/dual diagnosis, LGBTQIA2S+ care, probation, and addressing the impact of systemic challenges in the narrative.
Hello! I am a licensed addictions therapist with a background in social work, and I work with individuals motivated to maintain their recovery journey and learn more about themselves along the way. I have a diverse background due to my experiences across the gambit of settings from inpatient detox and residential centers, community based programming, state prisons, and outpatient clinics. As such, I work with adults to process trauma and daily stressors that may be impacting their ability to become the version of themselves they wish to achieve.

My approach includes tools and techniques from CBT, strengths-based coaching, positive psychology, adult development theory, and narrative therapy.
Is work making you stressed? Career and Workplace satisfaction plays a huge role in our overall happiness and psychological well-being. Yet, many people experience stress and burnout at work, which is often related to complex workplace dynamics, organizational cultures and practices, or imposter syndrome. Others may be navigating career transitions or re-design, and are seeking guidance and support along their journey. I am a Leadership Psychologist, Career Coach, and Psychotherapist who can help! Having navigated my own career re-design, I'm excited to partner with others in optimizing theirs.

Therapy is not 'one size fits all,' which is why I offer a range of treatment options, including EMDR, cognitive processing, CBT, DBT, prolonged exposure, internal family systems, and narrative exposure therapy.
Hi! I'm Carisa. I provide telehealth-based psychotherapy for adults, children, and families in Massachusetts and Florida. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety disorders and acute, chronic and/or complex trauma. My practice emphasizes a blend of evidence-based care, kindness and unconditional positive regard, which I have found to be the 'recipe' for success. I am a good fit for those seeking a collaborative therapeutic approach in which the wisdom you have gained from your lived experience is a welcomed and honored part of our work together. I prioritize autonomy, choice and informed consent throughout the therapy process.

I'm trained in a variety of treatment models (relational, cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, and narrative), and have practiced as a clinician at Harvard University and Brigham & Women's Hospital.
Life isn't perfect, and despite the standards that we try to hold ourselves to, neither are we. From everyday stressors and uncontrollable circumstances, to complex relationships and overwhelming expectations, at some point, we all face challenges that seem insurmountable. If you find yourself struggling to cope or confronting an issue that prevents you from living a fulfilling life, I can help.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
