You have been sitting with your thoughts & seem to recycle your memories. You are excellent at suppressing your hurt and stay busy with work and life as a distraction. You no longer connect with others the way you used to and keep friends and family at a distance. The Pandemic may have increased your anxiety and depression and you are uncertain where to begin. Your worry and fear come out as; anger, sadness and controlling behaviors, due to questioning your worth & self esteem. Will I ever feel truly happy? Will I feel truly loved? Will I find my life path and the career that makes my soul soar? Will I learn to forgive?

By looking backward, I can begin to live forward by becoming who I really am. Attachment shapes behavior and thinking. Survival skills from earlier life become maladaptive barriers to growth. Addiction and mental health problems often reflect a False Self. If I have the courage to confront the masking qualities of this False Self, I am ready for change and to allow the True Self, my authentic and spiritual nature, to emerge. While we cannot make these changes alone, readiness is indicated by my willingness to engage beyond therapy in Twelve Step programs or other means of engaging with others.

Have friends or family expressed concern about your drinking? Do you want to cut back or stop using substances but feel stuck? Are you anxious, emotionally drained, or constantly on edge? Many people turn to alcohol, drugs, or other coping habits—overworking, avoidance, isolation, or numbing behaviors—to quiet their mind or manage stress, only to feel more frustrated over time. You may look “fine” on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. You want relief, clarity, and a better way to cope.

Cognitive Based Approaches: CBT / DBT / Person Centered
Life throws obstacles at us and dealing with them alone may be difficult. Throughout my personal and professional journey I had to make decisions and adjustments and take time to reflect in order to grow towards becoming the individual I want to be. I believe that therapy can help you cope with the difficult times and provide a safe space where you can share those moments with me instead of experiencing feelings of helplessness and loneliness. I hope to be the ear and support you may need. It is perfectly normal to hit bumps in life and need assistance in dealing with them.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
