A life that is trauma, or drama-free is often based in fairy tales. Let's face it happily ever after does not provide details of "who", "what" and "how" happy is defined. Real people have real problems...relationship issues, financial issues, employment issues, depression, substance abuse, anxiety, stress, and grief are just a few of the problems we deal with regularly. Healthy coping skills are necessary tools to help people master life's issues and maintain their health mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Whether you need help in developing coping skills or strengthening coping skills, help is available.

I am a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist trained through the Beck Institute in 2001, a Certified EMDR therapist trained via EMDR Institute, a former family caregiver, I am Trauma informed, and also have SA therapy experience in inpatient, IOP, and facilitated Early Recovery Groups.
Life's path can be a very challenging road to travel, but an opportunity to grow, strengthen and help rebalance the mind, body & soul. Identifying roadblocks, the distorted thoughts that lead to faulty conclusions are the first steps to healing in this journey. People who find themselves trapped on the same dead end road are not always aware that they are using the same coping mechanisms to navigate through life. Being cognizant of these patterns create the opportunity to be on a different path necessary for growth & change. This therapeutic process is a courageous, life transforming experience. I can be your partner on this journey.

I use EMDR to clear after effects of trauma, addictions, anxiety and depression.
You are a sensitive person but wish sometimes you were less sensitive. You often feel overwhelmed, worry too much and feel discouraged. You are so responsible and care so much about your loved ones that you put yourself last. Maybe you have trauma from your past you know still affects you but other things you have tried have not helped you enough. It's not that you have not tried to help yourself-you have tried and tried hard. You know you are not living up to your potential. You want more for your life.

"Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves" - Henry David Thoreau. When you are feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, and exhausted, it is so important to connect with someone compassionate who really empathizes and genuinely cares. The goal of therapy is to provide a safe space and a non-judgmental ear to explore sources of conflict and develop solutions together.

I am also trained in EMDR therapy that has shown significant results especially with trauma and PTSD.
Cultures are tricky even when we live in the same country. Do you feel it's difficult to be fully understood? Do you feel 'conflict with others' happen often? Sometimes, we feel lonely, lost, and discouraged when going through life transitions, good or bad. Transition could be a divorce, a loss of a loved one, a new cultural/sexual identity, or even an exciting new job. You don’t have to go through those transitions alone. Therapy is a safe space for you to explore the complex emotions that come with those changes.

During our time together, we’ll explore a variety of counseling techniques tailored to your needs, including EMDR.
I have a passion for working with individuals looking to escape the yo-yo dieting cycle, learn about the many negatives of diet culture, and finally find body and food acceptance. As someone who is neurodiverse, I have a deep connection to various neurodiverse communities and firmly believe in understanding neurodiversity as a natural variation rather than a “disorder”. I also draw upon principles from WPATH and stand firm in my commitment to the LGBTQIA+, HAES, and ENM/poly communities. Growing up in a rural area in the thumb of Michigan taught me about the power of community and human connection, which I always bring to sessions!

To best meet your individual needs, I draw from several therapeutic techniques, am trauma informed, and am trained in both EMDR and ERP Therapy.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. As a woman, you may be often seen as "Super Woman", where you can do it all and be it all, while putting others and their needs before your own. But the truth is, you are human. You may be feeling overwhelmed, depressed, or anxious or maybe you are struggling with finding balance in your life.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
