I am also trained in play therapy.
Life is not easy; we often need support and someone to listen to our fears, hopes, and dreams. We sometimes need a nudge in a certain direction we can't see clearly. I can help provide that nudge with whatever you are struggling with and provide insight on how to get there. I work with a variety of ages from age 5+. Accepting new clients for telehealth!

Planning a family can be a challenging time for many. In spite of reading all the books, scanning the internet and asking all the questions, you may find it is not what you expected and your mental health can shift and change. I can support you through this delicate period. My work with young children and their caregivers is about building a safe, trusting relationship. Our earliest relationships provide the foundation for all future relationships. I work with parents/expecting parents, indvidually or with their young child. My work with young children indvidually is play based and skill buidling.

I offer activities such as art, play, relaxation and talking.
Grab a cup of coffee/tea and let’s talk! My goal is to create a safe and relaxing environment where you can be yourself. I do not believe that therapy must always be a stiff uncomfortable process. I am here to help you achieve your solutions and the life changes you are looking for while enjoying yourself and the process as much as possible. Asking for help is hard, but I hope you take a moment (and a deep refreshing breath) to call or email me to see how I can help you.

I am also experienced in play therapy for working with young children.
The cornerstone of any effective therapy experience is a good relationship. The relationship between therapist and client can provide an opportunity for working through difficult emotions and experiences, both past and present. I strive to develop a nonjudgmental partnership with each person I see in therapy, keeping in mind that every person and situation is unique. This allows us, together, to explore and understand the issues that bring you to therapy and how to begin to resolve them.

The quality of one's life can be greatly enriched through the personal growth and healing that takes place in psychotherapy. As human beings, we cannot control all the things that happen to us in life, but with help, we often can find ways to bring some positive meaning to unfortunate events. I believe that many of the solutions to our problems lie within us, so I work with clients to help them unlock their own unique strengths and overcome obstacles to resolution.

I take an eclectic approach and integrate movement, art, play, and music into the counseling session to help all children communicate and be successful in their own way.
My ideal client is one that is struggling but wants to improve. Neurodevelopmental disorders are my JAM! ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders is where I direct much of my clinical experience. It's important to me that my clients (and their parents/families/teachers) understand the uniqueness of their disorder and how to turn a perceived deficit into a SUPERPOWER. All children are wonderful gifts, and I love helping children discover and embrace their best selves. A diagnosis does not define you, your child, or your family.

Play Therapy

Who is play therapy for?

Play therapy is generally targeted to children between the ages of 3 and 11 who have social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties. Play therapy has also been found helpful for children who have experienced physical or emotional abuse or witnessed atrocities. Play therapy is also often recommended for children who are undergoing major medical procedures or who are suffering from chronic illness; many children’s hospitals are equipped to offer play therapy on-site. Play therapy is also sometimes used for adults; creative writing, music, and art are expressive forms that can all be adapted for therapeutic purposes.

Why do people need play therapy?

Children often do not have the language skills or words to know or to express what is troubling them. Yet they often spontaneously draw or use playthings to depict scenarios that reflect problems in their everyday life. Play therapy provides children with an array of objects and play situations to act out their feelings or experiences so that therapists can get a clear picture of what children might be struggling with and help them find solutions. In addition, play therapists are skilled at helping children understand their inner experience and find words for them, necessary steps toward helping children learn to control their own behavior and come up with solutions to problems they encounter.

What happens in play therapy?

A child enters a comfortable playroom where they are free to choose the objects they want to play with. The play therapist will typically observe how they play with the toys—whether a sandbox, puppets, dolls and action figures, trucks, costumes, drawing and painting materials, or more—because such play provides clues to a child’s family and social relationships, difficulties they are encountering in the world, and what going on inside themselves. Sometimes the therapist may ask the child to use the play objects to tell a story about their family. Using the same instruments of play, therapists can help children discover more advantageous ways of thinking and behaving.

What kinds of problems do play therapists treat?

Play therapy can help children who display destructive or self-destructive impulses; children who seem angry, sad, or fearful; children who experience frequent social, emotional, family, or school difficulty. Play therapy is often of value to children who have experienced a loss or distressing family experience, who are regularly exposed to family conflict, or who have been physically or emotionally abused. Play therapy can help children who are perpetrators of bullying as well as those who are targets of bullying. It helps children learn to identify their feelings, to express them in constructive ways, and to regulate them so they can get on with the business of development.

How long does play therapy last?

Play therapy sessions may last for 30 to 45 minutes, and they usually occur weekly for about 20 sessions. Each session is tailored to the individual child and the kinds of problems they are struggling with. Play that is highly repetitive often indicates a problem requiring further exploration. Therapists typically measure progress through session-to-session changes in play behavior.
