My specialties of practice include issues dealing with growth and development, cultural issues, women's issues, depression , children and adolescent issues, anxiety and PTSD, ADHD, conduct disorder, and personality disorders.
Have you ever heard the phrase "we solve our own problems". Or that it is a weakness to express your emotions. Are you from a culture where it is not okay to see a therapist? Are you overwhelmed with thoughts? If you could just talk to someone about it...Well you are in the right place. Here you will find a warm and safe place to express these feelings or emotions, manage stress, reduce anxiety, cope with depression or grief, understand anger, and deal with life's transitions without violating your family or cultural principles.

Another area that people have sought help with is sadness and depressed mood which may follow a loss.
Thank you for reading my personal statement. I am a licensed psychologist in the State of Maryland, and I am a graduate of the Psychology Program at the University of Maryland in College Park. In my experience, a person seeks the assistance of a therapist when a pattern of behavior is no longer effective or when a life transition occurs. In turn, a person begins to develop new options and new life directions when he or she has the experience of being heard and being understood.

If you're struggling with food issues along with anxiety, depression , body hate, post-bariatric surgery issues or chronic illness, I can help.
Does emotional eating or stress eating cause more stress than it solves? You probably know how to eat healthy, but staying on track - that's a different story! Even if you've tried every diet known and dread the next Monday re-start, you change change the diet habit. It's hard to enjoy life when you're consumed with criticism (yours & others) and it's hard to know what will make things better. There are a lot of great tools to help you dissolve stress, so you can focus your goals without using food as a coping mechanism. You can change your relationship with food, your body and create well-being habits that support your well-being.

I enjoy working with teens and adults. I see couples and families, helping them live happier, more relaxed, and fulfilling lives. I am respectful of my client's time. I frequently check in to make sure that the sessions are helpful, and that we are focusing on what the client wishes to. If one approach is not working, we try another! When people are feeling anxious, depressed , or angry, often the problem is their stress level and lack of a support system.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
