Whether you find what you're looking for on my page, or another's, I am so proud of you for getting to this step. There can be great benefits to expressing and exploring thoughts, feelings, inner conflicts, emotional wounds in a safe space. Like many clinicians, I employ a wide range of modalities and interventions. I use a strength based approach, one that's honest, non-judgmental, but direct and explorative. You deserve happiness, a fulfilling life, and I'd be honored to walk alongside your journey to discovery and change. Although we are shaped by our experiences, you are so much more than what has happened to you.

I see therapy as a tool for the acquisition of self knowledge leading to insight and deep, fundamental change in the way one experiences life. Through the deepening of self awareness and self acceptance one is able to authentically connect with others and the world around them.

My training would be defined as "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" but I engage in general therapy. This means that I will work with my clients to meet them where they are and use tools, interventions and approaches that respect their person and strives to align with who they are. I am here for the client and make it a point to engage on a humanistic level. I am not a therapist who sits in a chair and asks "how does that make you feel?" I am a therapist who wants to actively help you identify your goal(s) and come up with a plan for you to reach them. I will not waste your time and I am invested as much as you are.

You’re frustrated and unhappy in your relationship. Fear of being alone is keeping you stuck. You pretend everything is fine, so nobody knows things aren’t perfect. You’re overwhelmed, sad and at a loss as to what to do. You’ve tried to fix things, but hit a wall together. You just want to feel loved again. I hear you. I’ve been there.

As we move through each day, it is easy to be distracted or pulled away from our center. Therapy is time set aside to slow down and examine what is meaningful. We all get stuck and can feel lost in life. Emotions can overwhelm us and we can feel disconnected and alone. Even, unsure how to move forward- not knowing the next step. When we come together in a supportive environment, healing does take place and shifts do happen in our lives. Reach out to me for a free phone consult to see if counseling is right for you.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
