Together, we’ll tackle anxiety, trauma and depression with practical tools to manage emotions, break free from stuck patterns, and reclaim your joy.
You’ve been hit hard by life, and it’s left you feeling stuck, like you’ve been slapped, kicked, or even punched by reality. Now, you’re staring at a growing gap between the life you want and where you are. You can see what life could be, but it feels like you’re trapped in your own head, spiraling further away from your goals. The things you used to enjoy don’t bring you the same happiness anymore, and you find yourself caught in patterns of behavior you wish you could break. You’re craving a change, but it feels like every step forward pulls you two steps back.

New clients are alway welcome! Your first appointment usually occurs within one week, and I can see people weekly if needed. How do I do this? I flex my availability; this includes what days I work, and what hours I work. Caveat; in order to maintain my own positive mental health my availability during evenings is very limited. I tend to not work on Fridays, and only for emergencies on weekends. If I sense that I will not be able to help you, I will tell you. Knowing my own strengths and limitations is healthy and very important to me. All services are provided LIVE (HIPAA)audio/visual link; including EMDR.

In fact, I have been told by many clients that I am very "nonjudgemental" and "supportive" in my approach to working with them.
I have worked extensively with both individual clients, as well as couples. I specialize in helping clients with the following issues: affective disorders (e.g., depression), anxiety problems, and marital issues. I frequently work with helping clients to rapidly resolve trauma issues, including childhood abuse. I also work with with stress issues, health psychology, and sleep problems. The full range of psychological testing, including intelligence and personality testing, is also available. Many of my clients are self-pay (to avoid insurance hassles), but I do accept Medicare, Tricare, and some PPO plans.

As a queer-identifying male therapist, I aim to offer an inviting and warm environment for those that lack representation especially in the climate we're in currently.
I am currently accepting NEW clients! It is not your fault. A lot of times guilt and shame get in the way of real hu man progress leading us stuck in a paradox of emotions we don't know how to deal with. Sometimes we experience these emotions at a heightened value where you feel out of control. Other times we push them down so severely that we forget what it's like to feel emotional at all. Whatever is troubling you, those emotions are valid and there is a healthy and sustainable way to honor each and every one of them. I believe there is something courageous in knowing when you need help and taking the steps to receive it.

Hi, I'm James. As a licensed therapist, I bring my authentic self into our sessions. While I deeply value my experience and theoretical orientation, I believe that trust, connection, and comfort between client and therapist are equally important. My clients appreciate a therapist who is genuine, compassionate, non-judgmental, willing to offer honest feedback, and who brings a touch of humor to the process. In short, I strive to be not just a therapist, but a relatable and hu man presence in your journey.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
