My focus is working with women who struggle with depression, trauma, grief, shame/guilt, anxiety, spiritual abuse, emotional, and sexual abuse.
I have journeyed with adults experiencing a wide variety of issues, in practice for 20+ years. Although I spend time exploring the specific problem that brings you into counseling or therapy, I will also explore in depth the nature of your relationships with other significant people in your life. I will do this in such a way as to challenge ineffective ways of living and provide for personal change to occur. Change at this level requires more than new skills or understanding. I will help you work through and take responsibility for the specific situations you are facing.

Much of my formal training and certifications are for the treatment of trauma both acute and complex.
When considering a therapist, I think one of the most important factors is that of connection. Do you feel understood? Do you experience a felt-sense of safety? Are you living your best life? I have a wide range of clients both in age, gender, sexual orientation, and goals. What sets me apart from other therapists is my passion, purpose, and training. I have the heart to serve those that have been wounded in their life journey and desire to heal from these experiences. Our bodies, minds, and brains are so complex. Therapy is a journey that includes a comprehensive road map for treatment based on your goals.

I specialize in treating adult women with a history of childhood trauma. Most of my client’s have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences, such as family dysfunction, abuse or neglect, or what I refer to as deep, impactful experiences from childhood to adolescence. My clients are well-functioning, but the secondary issues from their unresolved/unhealed pasts show up as depression, anxiety, avoidance and relational difficulties, causing a feeling of "stuckness" despite "knowing better". I am an neurobiology-informed experiential therapist, utilizing “bottom-up”, holistic approaches.

There is hope! What I specialize in: anyone who has experienced childhood trauma, and those with chronic health issues, EMDR certified. You can find life more peaceful and simple with increased connection with yourself and others. Being willing to reprocess the past with EMDR is the most effective way to treat current symptoms. Connection with others is a basic human need. I am sure whatever your symptoms are they are impacting your relationships. This is what is causing the most suffering. We all need relationships to feel happy and content. We will explore past trauma, increasing contentment. This is NOT traditional talk therapy.

I specialize in trauma work and use of EMDR to resolve symptoms of PTSD.
I work with an eclectic approach to therapy. By forming a strong, therapeutic alliance the client and counselor embark on a journey toward shared treatment goals. My theoretical approach to counseling enlists pieces of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and interpersonal psychotherapy. With evidence-based treatment practices, the client can learn new methods of coping with mental health distress. One main area of focus is the treatment of trauma. Too often, clients have attended counseling with no relief of symptoms and have revealed that the trauma they experienced was unaddressed. As a Certified Trauma Specialist, I am passionate about helping clients heal from traumatic experiences.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
