Hi, I'm Ryan. I am a proud Mexican-American and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. I am passionate about providing affirmative therapy and a safe space for all of my clients. I enjoy working with people who want to work on improving their situations. I believe all people are unique and therapy is not a “one size fits all”. Because everyone brings in their own unique set of skills, based on their circumstances, I will meet you where you are.

I work with a wide variety of issues and themes, but I am particularly drawn to those exploring anxiety, grief, life transitions, and identity.
You made it here, which means you've decided to take a step toward improving and nurturing your mental health - amazing! No matter what you are seeking therapy for, it's a tough thing to tackle. As your mental health provider, I aim to create a nonjudgemental, safe space for you to explore your life experiences, challenges, and goals. I believe that the therapeutic process is relational and ever-evolving. Just as we are our own worst enemies, we are also our biggest allies, and I am here to help you strengthen that alliance with yourself.

I'm a Certified Couples and Sex Therapist, and have experience working with diverse populations (straight, gay, lesbian, trans), various relationship configurations (monogamous, open, polyamorous, etc), and challenging issues both in and outside of the bedroom.
Life can be painful and difficult. Intimate relationships can be particularly challenging if you don't have the communication skills needed to express your feelings and resolve conflicts effectively. This can lead to anger, resentment, fear and loneliness. Over time, intimacy and sexual connection will often suffer due to these feelings. Therapy can help you sort through and understand the challenges you're facing, and identify solutions that work for you. With the proper support, things can get better.

Vulnerability takes courage, but is the root of therapeutic transformation.
I’m a clinical psychologist and I specialize in therapy for adults. If you’re here, I’m guessing it’s because you are struggling with something in your life and feel like you need help. I know how hard it can be to reach out and ask for help, and I’m glad that you’ve made it this far. Therapy doesn’t have to be daunting and mysterious. At the most basic level, therapy is just two people relating with one another in a relaxed, safe, and supportive atmosphere. What makes it different from other relationships is that we keep the focus on you, and I have specialized training that enables me to foster the conditions necessary for change.

I work with clients of diverse backgrounds, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals, and use a cultural lens and a systems approach in order to consider the intersectionality from which each client experiences their life.
In a world that can often feel overwhelming, it can be easy to feel disconnected from ourselves and from others. I believe therapy can offer a space where we can process and honor our struggles in order to reconnect. As a queer Latino therapist, it is my hope to create a safe and affirming space that allows clients to be curious about how they engage with their internal and external worlds in order to gain the self-awareness needed to make life-enhancing adjustments.

As a trans and queer therapist with ADHD, my lived experiences alongside nearly 10 years of supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups helps me connect to the grief that can arise from navigating a world that often feels unwelcoming.
Sometimes, simply existing is overwhelming, and it’s easy to feel lost in that struggle. If you’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t resonate, I recognize how discouraging that can be. My aim is to create a space where you feel genuinely connected, respected, seen, and affirmed. I work through an anti-oppressive lens with individuals from the LGBTQIA2S+ community as they navigate identity, sexuality, relationships, and the complexities of suspected or diagnosed ADHD and/or Autism, anxiety, and trauma. Together, we’ll cultivate a greater sense of control, self-compassion, and help you feel truly at home within yourself.

I specialize in working transgender and non-binary youth and their families on matters related to gender identity.
My approach to therapy is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT). A core idea in ACT is that trying too hard to get rid of or control our emotions tends to backfire. Instead of trying to get rid of unwanted thoughts and feelings (e.g., anxiety & depression), I will help you learn to react differently to them so that you can keep your focus on living a meaningful and fulfilling life based on what’s important to you. We will work together to set meaningful goals to address your concerns–whether they relate to life transitions, depression, anxiety, body image, grief/loss, job or academic stress, or gender & sexuality.

Often in life, we experience difficult situations, transitions, or changes that can make us feel lost, anxious, and overwhelmed.
Most of my clinical training has been with college students, young adults, and LGBTQIA communities, but I have experience working with clients across the lifespan. I specialize in helping clients navigate coming out experiences, anxiety, depression, trauma, and bereavement. I also recognize the ways societal oppression impacts marginalized voices. In therapy, I value creating a safe, warm, trusting environment where you will develop new insight into your life and cultivate new strategies to meet your goals. You are not meant to do this alone and I would be honored to help you along your journey!

Are you tired of bad "dates" with therapists, finding yourself explaining basic parts of your identity and feeling like therapy's going nowhere because of it? Maybe you're kinky, disabled, BIPOC, neurodivergent, queer, non-monogamous, all of the above, or don't subscribe to labels. It's time to alter the narrative towards solidifying, expanding, and affirming those identities instead of breaking down, minimizing, or ignoring them.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
