Dochney Counseling is a small group practice with therapists that have worked in a variety of settings (inpatient, in-home, college campus, hospital, private practice) with a diversity of clients varying in age, race, and issues; which we feel has well equipped us to work competently with the majority of populations. Our therapists are well versed in working with individuals suffering with personality disorders (borderline, histrionic, etc.), depression, social anxiety, self image/esteem issues, and gender identity stressors.

Katie Austin is an LMSW graduate from the University of Southern California. She specializes in trauma, depression, anxiety, alcohol and substance abuse, and personality disorders. She has experience working with young adults through elder adults from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, she has extensive life experiences as a military spouse and volunteer, which led her to earn a Masters of Social Work. She embraces the concept of meeting an individual where they are by using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients reach their goals.

Growing up in a small town, and being a military spouse, I am all too familiar with the stigma that comes with mental health. I understand how difficult it can be to speak up and ask for help. As a mother, it is important for me to be as present as possible in my children’s life while also maintaining my career. In my role as a spouse to an active duty service member, I see firsthand how serving affects not only the soldiers, but their family and children as well. My desire is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for anyone who needs help, guidance, or simply a safe place to talk about their life.

I whole-heartedly believe that the answers we are looking for are deep within. I believe we sometimes struggle to figure things out/follow through with our decision to change due to both internal/external barriers. My role as a therapist is to support others by listening and helping them problem-solve in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner. We will work collaboratively to identify/utilize effective skills to break through the barriers in order to bring about lasting change. As a solution-focused therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating.
