Tired of talk therapy? We do little talking in sessions, whether with Equine-assisted Psychotherapy or Accelerated Resolution Therapy. We do "work" therapy. With EAP, you'll participate in activities outdoors on the ground with our team: a licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist and horses. When you trust the horse to be part of your counseling team, you feel more empowered to make changes. Horses are reflective and intuitive, and don't judge. ART uses rapid eye movement to help you reprogram how traumatic memories affect you. Keep the memory; lose the pain. Come "experience" therapy with us.

“I know that it can be hard to be in a relationship with me.” “I’m too much.” “I can’t depend on anyone but myself.” “I just rather be alone than be with someone and be unhappy.” Each of these statements suggest that you’re living life in a state of fear. When you feel unsafe, you are looking for the danger in situations. You trust no one. You are constantly in the mode of defending, running away, people pleasing or in analysis paralysis (procrastination). As a result of your responses to your fears, each of your relationships suffer. Wouldn’t it be GLORIOUS to trust your spirit of discernment, kill your fears and feel safe?

Life is ever evolving sometimes we believe it to be perfect, other times we see it as being overwhelming, stressful causing us to feel angry, violent, lost, and overworked, we hear and experience heartrending periods of death/grief, highs, and lows that we believe will last forever. We have been told or view ourselves as flawed, not good enough, emotionally, spiritually, and physically injured by others and we start to see ourselves just as they described us. We feel confused, fearful, miserable/unhappy, depressed, and embarrassed. Thus, our past struggles, current challenges, future goals, thought patterns, behavior, and relations

I provide therapy for a variety of issues that you may be facing. The most prominent of these issues are depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders. This does not mean I do not provide counseling for other issues or that those “other” issues are not as important. Here are a few examples of those “other” issues I have experience with: grief counseling, social skills education, substance abuse, parenting, domestic violence education/counseling and therapy related to chronic medical issues. In my practice, I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). When appropriate, I use other treatment modalities as well.

Drawing from Adlerian therapy, attachment theory and polyvagal theory (nervous system regulation) for all clients, as well as elements of Positive Discipline for parents, my treatment approaches are trauma-informed and include talk and play therapy as well as expressive arts, and I am working toward the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential.
All of us have a need for belonging and significance, and sometimes we feel discouraged: by our past, choices we have made or things we have experienced, as well as people we have encountered. I work with clients to figure out what is causing distress, and focus on strengths and resources in a personalized approach to facilitate healing, growth, and the development of new skills. Along the way, what Rudolph Dreikurs called “the courage to be imperfect” can emerge.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
