Deciding to come to counseling is a difficult one. My passion is to “walk along side” the person who ready to be challenged and work through being "stuck" from distressing experiences. My specialty is working with people who have traumatic pasts causing intrusive thinking/rumination; nightmares and flashbacks; and avoidance from others and situations. I am passionate about working with individuals and families to overcome underlying relational problems and to feel safe expressing their wishes and desires. I counsel with people who are dependent on drugs and alcohol working through what he or she is escaping from.

An ideal client would be an individual seeking a better life and might be unable to connect the dots. This may include recovery from alcohol or drug use with a desire for long term recovery or attributes from growing up in an alcoholic environment. They may be married to an alcoholic. Their relationships have probably suffered and need repairing; they may not know where to start. Life seems overwhelming and even difficult. All that is needed is a desire and some willingness.

In my work with couples, adults, and teens, my hope is that clients will leave therapy confident in their strengths, equipped to make wise choices, and empowered to maintain healthier lives and relationships. While the content of sessions depends on client needs/preferences, I typically work to alleviate negative symptoms within the context of current circumstances, help identify the root of challenges, and modify unhealthy cognitive and emotional processes. I use interventions that help clients break through an impasse and equip them with practical solutions for future problem-solving. I offer targeted short-term counseling or in-depth therapy that identifies and replaces negative patterns.
